The Inquiry Cycle Guide

by 100057 on May 14, 2013

Hey guys,  THIS IS DER INQUIRY CYCLE GUIDE!!

{ 0 comments }

Hey guyz,

Today, I’m going to talk about the Ladder.

You might be wondering “WHAT IS THE LADDER?! THE SUSPENSE IS KILLING ME!!!” Just kidding…

The Holy Ladder is the Ladder of Participation.

Here it is:

This talks about what students do about their projects. The top one shows that this project was student initiated and the student has talked to parents about it. The one on the bottom is the lowest level you can do, which is manipulating.

I think that I usually do 7, and I think I can do better :D

Ribbon Activity – Yellow and Blue

by 100057 on May 6, 2013

Hey guys!

Today, we had an interesting activity. It was with circle stickers that had the colors of red, yellow and blue. I was a yellow, which was the most unfair one. We had to do everything the red and blues told us to do, including giving them money, but we got them back as soon as the game was over. :D

Then, we got to change and the person we want to change with has to say yes. I got to change to blue, and I could tell yellow what to do. WHOOHOO

I really liked this activity because we got to be fair at the second part. I thought that this connected to Sharing the Planet because in the first part where I was yellow, we weren’t sharing the planet because yellow had to do everything the red and blue says.

I think that we should share everything to be fair.

What would you do to keep the world fair?

OMG! EXHIBITION IS OVER!!

by 100057 on April 27, 2013

Hey guys,

OMG! EXHIBITION IS OVER!

I didn’t write to you guys for a long period of time because I was soo busy doing exhibition. Firstly, my group is all from different classes. One is from 6D, one is from 6E, and one of them is from 6C. Our Central Idea is ‘Discoveries can Lead to change’ and our job for this whole exhibition is prove that the central idea is right. Why we are doing the exhibition is because we are an IB school, and we have the PYP Attitudes and Attributes and we have to show them in big events like this.

Our case study for the exhibition is plastics and metals, because we think that they influenced our lives the most. At  first, I really wanted to do fabric because it also impacted our lives a lot, but the majority of the group wanted Plastics and Metals, so I went with that.

Even though plastics and metals influenced a big part of our lives, there are a few benefits and challenges of using them. For example, the challenges of using plastic are that sea animals or birds might eat them because they think that the plastic might be jellyfish. Also, plastic can pollute the air and the sea. For metals, the benefits are that some metals that don’t rust for example stainless steel can be used for construction.

Plastic influenced us by making toys like rubber duckies, because before plastics were made, we entertained ourselves with singing, drama, dancing and much more. Metal influenced us by making vehicles like cars, planes and trains, because before metal was found, we had carts, horses and we even walked.

Our mentor was Mr. Lalwani, and he actually told us a few times that we should drop plastic because it might be a topic too big for us to research, but at last we only dropped the natural part of metals, not plastics.

There was a group doing entertainment and they brought in a couple of guitars. One of the guitar players in the group taught me how to play a few notes and now I know how to play the starting of Ed Sheeran’s Kiss Me. WHOOHOO! Even though my fingers hurt really badly from pressing down on the strings super hard, I’m so proud of myself. :D

On the day of presenting the exhibition to some people’s parents, I was really nervous and my palms kept sweating, but I think I pulled it off and did a pretty good job.

I built up some confidence and in the beginning I was stuttering but later on, I was just talking and talking until I thought that I really needed to stop talking for a bit…. :P

The day after the exhibition, in class we started to get into groups to make a video that is connected to the exhibition. My group is ChunWai and Stephen, and we have a lot of actors in the video like Ananya, Souichiro, Kenny and Jason. Our video is ’15 Ways To Fail the Exhibition’ and it includes no catwalking with exhibition displays, no drinking whiskey in the process of doing the exhibition, no flirting and a lot more. It’s SO FUNNY! We are almost done and when we are, I will post it on my blog. Promise!

And also, yesterday we had a party with ice cream and brownies, because the teachers said that this was a great exhibition and we exceeded their expectations.

Overall, I thought that the exhibition was a lot of fun, even though me and my exhibition group had a lot of conflicts (well it was mostly me and that group member). What I have to improve next time I have a show or an exhibition, I have to talk louder because the exhibition in the school was buzzing with noise.
