Today in TAP (teacher advisory programme) class, we discussed habits based on a book we read named the Habits of Highly Defective Teens by Sean Covey. And after reading it I find myself being able to relate to a lot of things, in both good and bad ways. I find myself falling into one positive habit especially, which is the “Being Proactive” habit. I know that because I’m constantly taking initiative and responsibility of my own life, and by taking actions which have good impacts on the future. A couple years before now though, I must admit that being proactive was probably the habit I did the least. I was never aware of what I was doing and what consequences follow what I do, but over the years I have realized how to become a better person, resulting me in improving my life.

ong with that, on my actual report, I pointed out what the purposes were of the structural adaptations on the picture of the bird. My weakness were elaborating even further on my explanations for the behavioural adaptions. I think my work outside of class was sufficient because I evenly distributed the amount of work I did at home and at school, therefore I used my time well and got the most out of it. If I were to start over, I would do more than what the rubric expected for example, talking about the birds calling noises, where the bird would migrate to and which specific predators it has. Using the rubric, for Criterion C, I would assess myself being a 5 because I have followed the guidelines and met the expectations, but not exceeding them.

I liked the input and output table’s the most in this unit because I find it to be the easiest way to figure out patterns. I also think that’s my strong point, because that’s the only area in the unit where I can be consistently be good at. I think I liked the story problems the least because it requires critical thinking and a deep understanding of all kinds of patterns. Although my patterns with fractions require some work, I think I learned really well on the patterns in general. Some questions I still have are how to understand the world problems better and how to pick up on them faster. I think that the study of Patterns is important, it’s going to help me in life by when I go to club meetings or activities. Because the meetings might be every other Wednesday, therefore I would have to figure out the pattern of which Wednesday I would have to go to.

In Mathematics, we are studying algebraic patterns. I am looking at Human Ingenuity as the Area of Interaction because it takes critical thinking to be able to figure out and analyze patterns. Mathematical innovations are designed to make you think. And including algebra with in the patterns, it requires people with creative minds, therefore they can find out the rule easily, because they think outside of the box. This can be used in real life, even with the simplest problems. For example, traffic lights, if you counted how many seconds it took until it went red again, that is finding out a pattern. Another example is your daily routine! Where are the patterns in that? Do you wake up at 6:00 every morning, then leave the house by 6:30? That’s a pattern.

Looking through the lens of Human Ingenuity, creating a man made beach, allows the government to be able to gain more money from tourists and such. As well as developers, because they will be able to build more homes for more convenience for those who live nearby.

Hello hungry bloggers! I know it’s a Thursday but tomorrow will be so packed I wouldn’t have time to give you an update. This week has been so busy! As you all know we have started the exhibition (if not, check my last post), and my group’s topic is “Art History”. Since that is a very broad topic, we narrowed it down to entertainment, then visual media. We have created our purpose, concepts and lines of inquiry, now we are refining our research questions. Sadly, a group member was sick for the past 2 days, so it was just me and another member, working our socks off, and yes I said socks.

The Exhibition has officially started! To learn a little about the exhibition click here

The Grade 6 students came together today to focus their attentions on our upcoming PYP Exhibition.

Our central idea for the exhibition is:

“The past has shaped what our world is like today.”

We had our first exhibition talk on Wednesday, we talked about topic/focus possibilities and had (not exhibition groups) group discussions to talk about whether a certain topic/focus would be appropriate for our exhibition. We found out our exhibition groups yesterday, I’m in a group of three and my topic/focus is art history, which was my top pick, so I’m very pleased with everything. Today we had another talk with the entire grade about “Manners Matter”, because since we’re going to be working in a group for the exhibition we have to respect each other.

Stay tuned for more cookielicious exhibition news!

Here are my parents’ comments:

Maya continues to be highly methodical and diligent in her approach to both learning in general, and the SLLR in particular. She is an independent thinker and is always curious to investigate further. It is clear that her critical thinking capabilities are developing apace and that she has become more sophisticated in terms of her application of a variety of intellectual concepts. Moreover, she still retains a good sense of humour about it all

This week was CRAZY! On Tuesday, the entire CDNIS went to the aberdeen sports ground for the Alan Dick Memorial Walk. If you didn’t already know, Mr. Dick was our Lower School Principle and passed away in 2009, since he was such an amazing man, he was missed greatly. Ever since 2010, our school has held the Alan Dick Memorial Walk in remembrance of Mr. Dick, and also all funds donated go to our scholarships. Click here to see a video made by my teacher during the walk. This week has been a crazy one, but a short one, because we also had a half day on Monday. I was surprised by how much work class 6C got done in three and a half days, good job everyone!
