White Lies

by 084484 on May 8, 2013

Today we went to see a ballet performance called ‘White Lies’ in the LLAC. It was more of a contemporary ballet, and was a bit like hip-hop. It was a lot of fun and I hope we can go see more performances like this in future!

Tuning In With a Twist!

by 084484 on May 7, 2013

Yesterday was interesting because I got to see what my classmates are like when given authority or when they are being bossed around. Ms Sandul asked each of us to pick between a red sticker, a blue sticker, and a yellow sticker. Because it is my favorite color, I chose blue. Then Ms gave us all a piece of paper according to the color we chose. For instance, if you pick Sandul ed yellow you got a yellow sheet, and if you picked blue you got a blue sheet. The red sheets were actually orange because we didn’t have any red paper! On the sheet was a list of rules and tasks. When Ms Sandul read out all three different sheets, it became obvious what they had done: We had to complete the tasks while yellow was lower-class, blue was middle-class, and red was upper-class. The rules for blue were you can ask yellows to do small jobs for you, you can’t work with the yellows or the reds, you can’t use your computer, and you have to sit where you are told. The reds spent all their time on their computers because they were the only ones who were allowed to, while all the other blues bossed the yellows around. I think it was quite interesting because you got to see how the freedom given to them really changed the way they behaved. Well, eventually the yellows went on strike, which was annoying because I was being nice to them. To make matters worse, the blues had to stay sitting down, so we had to scoot around on our chairs! I think it would have been interesting to do over break because you would have really seen the change in the social structure.

Action: Dying Without Shoes

May 2, 2013

For our action, my group decided to donate shoes to ICM, a fundraising organization which works with kids in rural Philippines. It finds sponsors for kindergartens and the sponsors pay for the children’s teachers, equipment, and meals. Each kindergarten has about 30 kids in it. To pay for all of the kids to have all the things I listed [...]

My Connections to Chinese Cinderella

Recently in 6A, we have been doing Literacy circles on two different books, Ties that Bind, Ties that Break and Chinese Cinderella. My group did Chinese Cinderella. Today, Ms.Sandul told us to look over the sticky notes we had made while reading the book and use them to make connections to our life. I skimmed [...]

Photo a day: Government Plans to Help Users Identify Cyberbullying

The government plans to help users of social networking sites find out  the identity’s of any cyberbullies. If  you want to find the ID of a cyberbullie right now, you need a court, some money, and a lot of patience. Last week, a woman won a court case against Facebook, who were forced to tell [...]

PSA,PI,what next?

May 9, 2012

I think this unit was hard because we had to produce two pieces of work for our summative assessment.  Overall, I found my Personal Inquiry the harder piece of work. It was very hard to think of a question for the Personal Inquiry.  This was because I was interested in a wide variety of topics [...]

Photo a day: Exploding Car

April 22, 2012

This picture shows a car that exploded while doing 260 mph in a drag race last weekend.  Luckily the driver was unharmed by the crash.  Apparently this is the third explosion he’s had in a race! I think this shows causation, i.e. it shows how an action can cause another action in a domino effect: [...]
