Trip To Thailand!

by Pedro Gonzalez on May 21, 2013

On May 9th, CDNIS left Hong Kong and boarded a plane flying to Bangkok. After flighting to Bangkok, we to another plane directly to Chang Rai where we drove all the way to Chang Mai. Chang Mai is a town of respect due to all the wonders of it’s people, it’s environment and it’s tranquillity. The reason why I think this way is because I find that Chang Rai is unlike no other town. It has it’s way in culture and it maintains that way.

Anyway, in our trip we stayed at a great resort where we stayed most of the day. That’s what got me a bit upset. I was hoping to entering the town of Chang Rai to discover all of it’s wonders but it was still very fun and it was an experience I would love to do again. Moreover, it was a safe, fun and rememberable week where we discovered all of Thailand.

U.N – The Fight For Education!

by Pedro Gonzalez on May 15, 2013

Recently I’ve been studying the works of the United Nations where I have discovered what it is and what they do, what they fight for and all their history. If you don’t know or aren’t sure of what the U.N is all about thats ok. I will explain it. It is an organization with over 192 representative from 192 different countries (1 seat per country) that have all agreed that the main goal or the common goal is peace and stability all over the world. They find new things to fight for/against and try to end it by using an organization called Unicef. Unicef help with poor children and get medication problems. Please go check their website and donate some money. It would mean a lot to Unicef, to the kids and to me.

What I care most about is, what they fight for/against. This was very interesting when I first heard it and the reason why it’s so engaging is because they have 8 steps. All of these steps are not specifically for individuals in one country. As you can see, the 8 steps in making the world a better place are

Out of these 8, I think that education is the most important because that will get you out of poverty the fastest way and it would also help your future family too. It is also a great way to help others in need and not just your self. With food and water for example, you can’t really spread it out unlike money our education. I also think that with no school, your life will end up with no value due to just sitting their hungry and unintelligent. It would help more generations and help yourself as well. Although I think this is the best one out of the 8, I think that they are all still important and have as much of an impact as education.

If you go see the site of U.N about education, you can see they have goals for 2015 like getting a secondary school for the children. Please post your opinions and please donate to Unicef

Science Trial

by Pedro Gonzalez on May 2, 2013

1) Do you agree with the jury’s verdict? Why or Why not? Include at least 5 facts from the evidence that was presented during the trial?

2) What was your job? Explain how you fulfilled your responsibilities?

I was the person who attacks their evidence by asking question of their data and attacking their evidence. That job is called the cross examiner.

3) If you could do a different job during the court case, which would you have volunteered for and why?

I would stay where I am because this job fits me well. I can improvise well and fast meaning that I can attack their information better.

4) Explain one or more things you learned about KMT during the investigations?

I learned how important it is to write all the information down on your lab. For example the weather is important.

5) Explain how you improved as a scientist during the KMT investigations and the trial?

Like I said, it is important to write everything down on your lab.

Math Reflection

by Pedro Gonzalez on April 18, 2013

1) I think I fall into a 2 because I practiced for this test a lot and I worked hard for this but I did have some problems in answering some questions. I felt confident with all the questions I answered.

2) The most challenging part was putting the fractions, decimals and percentages into a number line because I was not very sure of how to use a number line but know I am confident in that. A part that was easy was converting percentages into decimals.

3) Like I said, I worked hard on the test and I am happy with the mark I got. So my effort was high.

4) I like activities with items to interact with because that helps me understand better so the best part was the M&M activities.

The Other Side of Truth

by Pedro Gonzalez on April 18, 2013

This Post will be a lit bit different from the others. This will be asking questions and answering them.

1) What did you like about the novel?

The part I loved the most was the first few pages which I know is not common but the suspense used in the novel was used very well and that forced me to keep reading the book.

2) How did you apply what you learned from the novel to your project?

First I like to point out that it on Youtube so go check it out at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m5CSudur5QA and subscribe. The video will also be at the bottom of the vlog. It would mean a lot. Back to the topic. I used them as refugees. I said how society is treating the poor very bad. The topic is Pinochet and his coup of Chile. If you were reading my blog from the very start you would know I am from Chile.

3) For the project, what skills did you learn or apply in a different way than you had before?

I applied simple editing like transitions etc. It was easy but Anson & I re did our presentation 4 times which wasted lots of time. :(

4) What did you dislike about this presentation?

I dislike that this was not an oral presentation or else I think I would get a better grade than what it is now. Last time I got an 80% on my oral presentation which in this school is great!

5) What was your contribution?

I helped mostly on the visuals of the presentation and half the information. Anson helped on the script and the other half of the presentation.

Author’s Choice

by Pedro Gonzalez on February 8, 2013

On February the 5th, I presented a project called, Author’s Choice.  We had to write a short story and choose literacy devises  like setting, character or sensory imagery. I choose to use setting and sensory imagery but more specifically, pathetic fallacy. It is when the environment fits well with the basic plot line for example, before two lovers meet, one lover might pass a lovely garden. For sensory imagery I basically described things using my five senesces. I did all except taste. Here is an example I used in my story of olfactory imagery:

Marco keep commanding me excitedly into the living room were the smell of cigar over took the weak sense of lemon after the adults finished smoking.

This is one the sensory imagery I used.

In this presentation I learned how to use Prezi better and I learned how to control stage fright which I am very proud of because I find it is an important skill.

Go check out Prezi! Its free and excellent. Here is what Prezi looks like! To go the Prezi, go to Prezi.com

http://prezi.com/jm5sl4mixkj8/game-on/?kw=view-jm5sl4mixkj8&rc=ref-29911799

This is for my presentation.

If I could do this presentation again, I would use more visual aids to make the understanding better and faster. I could use more color or even point out more.

Please leave feedback on my blog anytime and be sure to share it with others. I will be writing better and more from now on so please give feedback. Thank and happy chinese new year. Gong Hee Fot Choy

How can Habits Hurt You?

by Pedro Gonzalez on February 6, 2013

Habits can easily hurt you in many ways like in a social way, health related way, working, and in a moral way. This can be dealt with easier as a kid because you have not developed your brain yet and you are also around more people as a kid.

One of my bad habits that I always do is that I don’t accept things people tell me and I just deny it all the time. The reason I think this is a bad habit is because so people might think of me differently in a bad way like that I am a sore loser. This also makes me not worry on problems that I should be worried of. I can change this habit by just accepting what happens and work on it as hard as I can. I think if I change this, I can become a better student, family member and overall a person. I can work on what others find troubling of me and work on it well. I really want to work on this because as an adult, it is hard to work on this but as a kid you are more social so this would be easier and it would do me good for my future life. I know I can work on this and have a positive outcome fast and effectively without causing other problems due to focusing too much on this habit. Fixing this habit will also make new habits to fix and it will become easier and easier each time.

Patterns Unit Reflection

by Pedro Gonzalez on January 24, 2013

  • What did you like most about our Patterns unit?
  • What do you think you learned really well?
  • What questions do you still have?
  • Why is the study of Patterns important? How has it or can it help you in life?

I liked learning about the numbers sequence and input and output table. I enjoyed finding the techniques of solving input and output tables because every time I solve a problem, I get better and better.

I learned how to complete tables and graphs, creating tables and graphs, and finding rules to real life situation.

How can it apply to our daily life?

It is important to be able to use this skill for that you may find a rule for a patter. (ex. Dinner Table Problem)

Science Project-Bird

by Pedro Gonzalez on January 24, 2013

I worked in and out of class a lot for this unit. (Building a Bird) I designed and built so parts of my bird with very odd materials like a ping pong ball as the head and an eraser  for the bill. I created ideas and the structure to fit it’s enviorment which was located in the north of Brazil.

Time management was tricky but I put a calendar to manage my time well. I planed it all to make it easy and effective.

If I would need to restart, I would use different materials because I made it of wire and that took a long time. I would use paper macho because it is effective and fast. I would also paint the body better.

For criterion c, I would give myself a 5 because I meet more than expected but it was not detailed information when I presented the structure  and the behavior. I would add more like the skin seams positions as that predictors do not attack these birds.

I looked at other peoples birds and I really liked how they draw their environment with detail and realistic features and how some birds come in pairs. I also noticed how some birds showed examples of male and female.

Shi Huangdi Unit-Skills

by Pedro Gonzalez on December 14, 2012

Throughout this unit, I have learned and improved on many skills. The most I have improved on is Sentence Fluency. Sentence Fluency is to help you make your sentences sound good, flow well, attraction and vocabulary. After reviewing S.F I re-wrote a piece of my essay.

Original:

Being a leader is a very important role to take on and especially when you are the first emperor of your country. An emperor needs to show that he is brave, wise, and truly a noble person to their pedestrians. Qin Shi Huangdi was able to make his presents effective  in a positive way such as building The Great Wall, standardizing all of China, and the triumph of unifying China. Although this became a very important part of China, emperor Qin Shi Huangdi committed some very cruel punishments himself.

 And my new copy:

To stand up as a leader for your country is a very important role to take control of and especially when one is standing as the first emperor of your country. An emperor is a brave, wise and a true noble person who looks after all the pedestrians. The presents of Qin Shi Huangdi, the first emperor of China, was very remarkable to China with The Great Wall, standardizing all of China, and the biggest triumph of his life, unifying China. He was a lord to China. Although this became a very important part of China, emperor Qin Shi Huangdi committed some of his own cruel punishments.

The changes are very noticeable and it flows better. This would help the reader and improve my mark on the essay.

An other skill I have improved on is poster presentation. I have a louder, clearer and smoother voice when I present in public. This is a part of your grade and this will not only help me for communication, it would also let information be understood.

The Learning of Qin Shi Huangdi

by Pedro Gonzalez on December 5, 2012

In Humanities we are studying Qin Shi Huangdi. I am looking at Human Ingenuity as the Area of Interaction because this will give me a better understanding of what he believed in and how he changed the defense of his country. It also shows how his country worked.

A True Scientist – Is Nam Lang Sang Worth Saving?

by Pedro Gonzalez on November 20, 2012

Lately, Ocean Park lost 17% of their money. They would like to expand their park by cutting the top of Nam Lang Sang’s hill. This may cause rare animals and plants to die. Next week, I will be going to the hill and see whats waiting for me. If the land is useless, then it could be cut with no problems. If the land has a habitat that is not common, it must be saved.

A problem for this is the government. He will not likely listen to scientists or protesters. They listen with money meaning the rich men can only communicate  with them. This has happened before in Lantau with the airport and a bay causing the Chinese White Dolphin to move. They will also create a bridge to China from here in Hong Kong.

We will create something for the government and try to stop destroying Tai Po’s beach and cut the land of Nan Lang Sang. We need to be credible for the government to listen. I do not have a final opinion on this until I go see the hill.

Big Hit For South of China!- Environments

by Pedro Gonzalez on September 19, 2012

The south of china got hit with a shocking earthquake and causing over 80 killed and 400 injured and buildings are down to the ground. The pedestrians are in tents but only for a weeks time, they will remove the tents living the pedestrians with no shelter, food or water.

We could help by helping the environments by planting trees, make groups online across the world and tell them what has happened, and go around schools and telling this sad story. It takes little effort to help so much so please help as much as you can.

Aberdeen Market

by Pedro Gonzalez on November 18, 2011

During the field trip, we went to the Aberdeen market. Before the field trip we had prepared questions to ask the shop keeper and the community around the shops. Once we got to the Aberdeen mall we organized ourselves into our group and headed to our adventure. We first went to the most attracting shop and asked, How do you best attract customers? ” We put our best looking product at the front of the store” the salesmen said. Then we looked at a shop that sales bed covers, beds, and table cloths and asked more questions about the organization of the shops. Then we went to the second floor of the mall and went straight to the first and biggest shop which was an electronic store. We asked how do you advertise your shop? ” We put it in the newspaper and T.V but the most effective is the newspaper” said the salesmen. Then we went out of the mall to go to the wet market.

When we got to the wet market we could see nice looking apples and veggies. When we went in we saw dead fish, we felt sick immediately. The stall was miles and miles long in both ways. We went to the first stall that sold fish. We looked at the shop owner that was cutting the skin off the fish. We asked him how do you get your seafood? ” we get it from some local people here in Hong Kong”. We then went to a flower place and my friend and I could not breath. We asked how do you organize you stall? He said “we put it by the nicest plants in order and makes it stand out”. After that we went near the entrance of the wet market and interviewed the community and try to get someone to answer our questions but no one answered. As we were leaving the wet market we passed by the stall that we first interviewed and saw an eel stick its head out of it’s box.

As soon as we got to the community space we first interviewed the elderly. Most of them were sitting down and resting. We tried asking if we could interview them but they said no. Luckily we found a group of people that would talk to us and they weren’t elderly.

Simulations with Grade 9

by Pedro Gonzalez on May 26, 2011

On May 25 and 26 our class went to a simulation with some grade 9 students. We got in a group and I was in the Orange. A simulation is like a play of an event that happens in the world, but we made the event fake. There were many games that help us experience different thing like live without arms and legs. We tried to put on shirts without arms. We tried writing with our left hand, and we tried to tie our shoes with one hand. We had to get on a chair with one arm and one leg. An other game had to do with poverty. Our group had to pretend to eat raw, dirty, and mounded food.

We learned a lot of facts like in Cambodia there are 4-6 million landmine.

SLLR

by Pedro Gonzalez on May 3, 2011

The SLLR is student led learning review. A student led learning review is when your mom and dad come to your school and see what you’ve done in your subjects like Music, P.E, French, Chinese, and in your class room. This was my second SLLR I’ve done at school. When I showed all my work to my parents, I was nervous, like most people, but then I got the hang of it. I liked showing what I’ve done in P.E the most because it is what I do best and it is the funnest. When I finished my review, I was happy because my mom & dad got to see my work. When I got home, I talked about my portfolio. A portfolio is where I put all my work and projects so that I get to bring it home.

Artifacts

by Pedro Gonzalez on April 28, 2011

Our class went to other peoples classes and looked for our artifacts and it did not take long to find it. My artifact was a soccer ball and my partner was one of my best friends. We all had to make a guest of what it was and my friend said it was a rock. The ball was broken up in to pieces and dunged up. We had to dig it up and glue it back together. We had to write a sheet to show what time we found it, how dip it was and a lot more. We gave the artifact back at the end.

National Treasure

by Pedro Gonzalez on March 31, 2011

Our class has been watching a movie called “National Treasure” because of the unit, “Where we are in Time and Place”. The five most important things that happened in the movie so far are:

1. The adventures find a boat at the North Pole.

2.The boat has a smoking bomb in it which was a clue to find a treasure.

3.There was an invisible map behind the declaration of independence.

4. One half of the team wanted to save the declaration of independence and the other half wanted to steal it.

5. They find a lot of clues to the treasure and lose the declaration of independence.

December Break

by Pedro Gonzalez on January 4, 2011

This post is about my December break but not the entire break, only two days and counting. I forgot to tell you with who I went and where I went. I went with mom, dad, sis and bro and both grand. My grandparents came from the other side of the world: Chile. And I am in the Phillippines. Some times I know if I will like a trip or not and I said no and I was correct. I throw up and I broke my tooth but I am ok, my mom knows a dentist that is awesome doing her job. I forgot to tell you I am a lover of food and I eat a lot, for breakfast I ate some rice a omelett, 2 suny side up, soup, and a lot more. I drank a lot of sundaes and shakes and for some reson when someone says shake it makes me feel bad. I would like to talk about my grands a bit more. My grandpa’s son and grandpa’s and dad and etc, all have the same name, but the son of him had 3 girls. Both of them were in a big 8.8 earthquake and my youngest relative was 5 years old and after 2 days I got a other relative. Back to the topic. There were a lot of activities and an arcade, computers and a Adventure Zone. There was sports like soccer, basketball, volleyball and swimming.

When we got to HK we had my favorite dish: lasagnea but my mom said no because it’s no good for your tummy so she gave me soup. Over all it’s ok this break. Oh and they were in Chile when the miners were traped. They were traped for 69-70 days and all 33 miners are alive. Back to the topic, it is really good having them here in HK. I think they came to HK already 3 times, but it is very hard to come from a very far place…..Next days. The next days were good and the food there is very good. We went snorkeling too and I saw two fishes that are very bad and it was a sea snake and a lion fish and you think it’s cold but your wrong, it was hot.

For Christmas  my gifts were a Iker Casillas kit in Real Madrid, real goalkeeper gloves, world record book, a helicopter, sports pants, two hats, a wii game, a wallet, soccer socks and a watch. The best gift was the kit.

Challenge book

by Pedro Gonzalez on December 16, 2010

I need to read a book for school and you see I don’t like reading, but the best part is that we get to pick our own book that had to be 100 pages or over and it had to be a novel. Holes is a good book because it has a good start but the book is not so cool. I will tell you what it’s about but here is the website and if your smart you can find out were it is. HOLES .Under is a picture of the book. It is about these people that go to jail and they I think get dismissed early if they dig a big hole and that is the reason the book is called holes. It is a good book to start with if you are not so at reading. That is all I want to say in this book review.

Cyber Bullying

by Pedro Gonzalez on November 18, 2010

Cyber bullying is very bad because, people say bad things to other people and why are my talking about this, because a visitor came to our school to talk about that. I think it was boring because, I know about it but I will still talk about it.

Cyber bullying is very bad and why do people do that, because they don’t like to see how they feel and if you do it in front of them they see how you feel and that is why they bully in internet. Please don’t cyber  bully. :(

Waste

by Pedro Gonzalez on November 17, 2010

Our class looked at a video about, people in New Zealand that is not being environmentally friendly. It was farmers that was burning all the garbage and the farmers was a family of four. That is not the only problem, the living room was very hot and when you pass the door it was cold. A other problem was that they did not recycle and the river was polluted, and you can’t drink or swim in it and the last problem was that the family had a garden but had no vegetable.

The people have only there weeks to change there habit of during there garbage and when they come back they will have a big bucket of how much money they made with recycling.

Our New Unit of Inquiry “How We Organize Ourselves”

by Pedro Gonzalez on November 15, 2010

The 5D Disco is on a new unit and it is about garbage/solid waste. The last unit was how the world works. We saw a lot of videos about garbage. We are working in a group on a work sheet. We also saw some websites about garbage. I think it will be interesting learning about were the garbage goes, what happens  to all the garbage and how does it effete the air.

I leaned a lot about our new unit of inquiry by a good video. The URL is  http://www.storyofstuff.com/. This video can help you a lot learning about facts of garbage.

I did not know a lot of facts but I know the basic like, where does it go, what do they do with all of the garbage, how dose it pollute the world and all that. Please leave a comment. :D

My Portfolio

by Pedro Gonzalez on November 9, 2010

A portfolio is like a booklet were we keep our work that we like or if the teacher ask you to put a work in your portfolio. In the end of a term or 3 month, we get to bring our portfolio home and look at it with our mom and dad. We look at all the work that is in our portfolio and talk about all of them.

We look at our report or our marking together and our effort we show at class.
