This mind-map that I have created(you may have to zoom in to see it better) was made on bubbl.us. It is a website that allows you to easily create mind-maps. This mind-map that I have created has reasons that bubbl.us is a good website to create mind-maps
I created this “thing” for our task in school. We had to create something or a creature that will maybe exist in the future. I created this on lego digital designer, an app that let’s you make things like this. I tried to create a “cyborg suit”. This will probably be invented in the future to help us with our tasks, such as maybe moving something heavy, like a sofa. I think this suit will impact mankind by helping us a lot, because we will be able to accomplish things that need much more strength, and therefore will be very helpful. What is unique about this suit is that if this is actually invented, it will be strapped on to your body, and the suit will be much slower, but will provide a lot of extra strength, helping you do things. The main thing that’s unique about it is that instead of putting on the suit like “Iron Man”, it will be strapped on(it also cannot fly). Overall, I think this suit would be very useful, but also very expensive, if it ever becomes real.
Hi! These are pieces of art that display conflict that I made. As you can see, the first and the piece on the top is just a black and white picture, of me and Elite 02 in conflict. the one in the middle is a pastel art piece, and the one on the bottom is made of cloth.
Hello world I am back again! after a loooooooong and great summer I have moved up to grade six! We have just finished a week of grade six and we were VERY busy! During the week we have got all new folders and journals, and we have seen some new things in our school, such as the new completely “blue” art studio! this week we have also have been hard at work with art. We have had to make a non-text based art piece on inquiry. We have been making posters, drawing, painting, as well as other things to express inquiry through art. We also have a BRAND NEW class name! This year I am in 6E, and we have decided that our class name will be the Elite Empire! We had a very busy week, and I will start to blog much more soon!
Hello once again! Yesterday, our teacher made us do a rap about algebra. Me and my friend did a rap and it is definitely them WORST rap in the whole world. Do NOT enjoy!
Today our class split up in little groups to do a math game that was about crossing a river! The game was:
1. On the weekend, friends of mine went camping. They were camping on a small island in the middle of the lake. There were eight adults and two children in all. When they went to cross the lake and return home their boat was missing. They searched and searched but all they could find was an old canoe. It wasn’t as big as the boat and they were worried it wouldn’t carry them all. So, they tested it and found the boat could carry either: One adult, or one or two children. At first they thought some of them would be stranded forever, but finally, they figured out how to get them all safely across the lake. Can you figure it out?
Repeat the problem using counters. I want to know the number of crossings it takes to shift the 8 adults and 2 children. What if one of the adults was sick and didn’t end up going camping? How would that change the number of crossing? Let’s adjust the number of adults. How does the number of crossings change when the number of adults changes? Record all your data. Can you find an algebraic pattern?
The formula to solve this is:
1. 2 children go across the lake
2. 1 child stays at the land, while the other one goes back to the island
3. The child gets of the boat and the adult rows across
4. The adult gets off the boat, and the child left on the land rows to the island
5. Both children are now on the island with one less adult. Repeat process until no adults remain
I was the first person in my class to solve this and I think this could take a long time, or if you think out of the box it could take a few minutes(I solved this in about 2 minutes). Then my teacher asked us how many crossings it would take for 25 adults and 2 children to get across. The actual “formulae” is: number of adults(25) x 4 + 1. So the real “formulae” is 4n + 1. So the answer is 101!
Today my class went to some grade 9 students to do something called a “Crossroads”(it’s an activity). We had to be put in different situations(i.e. being handicapped, doing child labour, etc.). My group was the orange group and our activities were: Being in the shoes of a child labourer, Having to pick out cards that could be dangerous or very good(i.e. health pack, land mine, etc.), and having to pick a disease and try to find the cure(they were on cards hidden around the classroom). I liked this activity because not only was it fun, you also had the experience of being in another poorer or handicapped persons shoes, so you see things from a different perspective. I think people at CDNIS should continue this exercise because I think this is very useful and is related to one of grade 5′s units, Sharing The Planet.
Hi world! Here is a book review on the book “The Spooks Mistake” and is the fifth book in the “Wardstone Chronicles” series. In this book their are some people called spooks, who fight the dark, which consists of monsters, demons, witches, and other monstrosities including the devil himself. The main character is an apprentice spook called Tom Ward, who goes north to train with a spook who is very used to the terrain around them, which is basically bog. Before this book in the “Wardstone Chronicles” series, the fiend(a.k.a the devil) got released into the world, and in this book has sent his daughter, Morwena, who is a water witch, to kill Tom. I like this book because it has a lot of suspense and it’s so compelling readers keep wanting to read till the end!
Hi! Today I’m going to talk about the book “Groovy Greeks” by author Terry Deary, and is one of the books in the “Horrible Histories” series. I like this book because it tells you regular history, but it also adds the bloody and gory bits into the book, plus some jokes, so it’s kind of making the book more fun to read. My favorite part of the book is the beginning, because in the beginning they show the Greek timeline, and what happened from the start of Greek civilization, to it’s downfall. But the reason I like it is because they add a lot of jokes to the timeline, so it’s much more fun to read.
