A fun quote I’ve been telling myself all year to keep me going:
“Everybody makes mistakes, thats why there are erasers”
This year has been a GREAT year! I learned lots of stuff and I made lots of friends. Below I am going to show you lots of stuff we did this year. From field trips to best friends, from math to fun lunch times. They are all on this page. But first I will show you my learning goals for this year.
1. Improve my reading skills
2. Develop my leadership skills
3. Improve my writing skills
I really like to read, but I always read easy books. So my teacher said that maybe putting improve my reading skills for a goal would be a good idea. After I put that on one of my goals, I got exceeding expectations for my reading skills. Now, I look to read harder, but modern books, not classic books.
Before, when I am in a group, I just let other people take lead and most of the time, we don’t get things done. For example, my friends and I did a kids4kids project and we had to write a book. Nobody took charge and in the end, so I had to take charge. In the end, we managed to finish but we didn’t win the the contest. We did get to the top 10 though.
For my goal improve my writing skills, I think I did a good job. I review the writing structures whenever we learn a skill and I find that way very helpful.
Math:
We did a lot of math this year and some of it was really challenging. A website that helped me was a math dictionary for kids. This dictionary is really good for students who want to learn more about math. We did lots of different kinds of math this year. We did multiplication, fractions, decimals, measurement and lots more.
UOI:
This year we did six different units. How we express ourselves, how the world works, how we organize ourselves, sharing the planet, where we are in place and time and who we are. We had lots of summative assessments. My favorite one was sharing the planet. We had two summative assessments for that unit. The recount and the PSA (you can see the recount and the PSA right here on my blog.)
For how we organize ourselves, the summative assessment was kind of hard. We had to give a speech to the class about something on how we can help save the earth. I was a incinerator advocate. That means that I support incinerators. Below is the speech I gave to the class.
French:
This year has been my first year learning French. In August, when we just learned started learning French, Madame Lum told us that we can’t speak English during French time. I was shocked and so were most of the people in my class.
I remember the first time I had a REAL French class; I was really scared and excited. Now I am not scared to take French classes anymore.
The first thing I learned in French class was how to introduce ourselves. I didn’t really get what the teacher was saying so I just sat there and I didn’t do anything.
We also did lots of different skits. We did the three little pigs (in French version). We did common y aller and Napoléon. I really liked those skits, but I don’t like memorizing the skits. I have really bad memory.
My favorite thing about French is performing the skits. I think it’s fun because the skits are really fun and exciting. The think I don’t like about French is that you can’t speak English. It is very hard to communicate if you don’t speak in English.
Overall I think French this year has been very fun and I like it very much. I think it would be better if next year we don’t have to memorize skits and we can speak in English during class time. I also think that doing the opening chant before class is very fun and I like watching other people lead the class.
Chinese:
This year my Chinese teacher is Ms. Joanna Huang. She is a very nice teacher and even though she gives us really little homework, we still learn a lot from her.
We have two platforms to share our information on Schoology and Moodle. Schoology was the first platform we used. We share lots of stuff we find on the Internet and we put it on Schoology. Moodle is basically the same thing, but we can hand in homework on the platform. I really liked Chinese this and next year I am going to be in MA again! (that’s the highest level in Chinese.)
Friends:
In Grade 5 I made a whole bunch of friends! I have a friend called Heidi, we have LOADS of stuff in common. This is a pages document that I made just about me and her. (click on it) My bestie Heidi
This is a pages document I made for my group of friends (we call ourselves the FACH group!) (click on it) friends profile
This year, my friend Katie taught me how to make music videos, and then put it on youtube. Here is one we made. (Cherilyn and Anna’s in it too)
Parties/holidays
Grade 5 teachers always like doing stuff together. We always have parties right before holidays and we have disco parties and there are lots of foods to eat. (I love food!)
This year Halloween was our first party. I was really excited for the party and it was really fun. In Halloween I dressed up to be a casual bunny.
For Christmas, I was too excited to even go to the disco party because my birthday is on Christmas and I love all the presents I get (I usually get money, but whatever.)
Overall, Grade 5 was my best year in CDNIS! I LOVE YOU GRADE 5!!
