My dad and I plan to climb all the mountains on Hong Kong (Victoria) island. We started out from Parkview then walked down Tai Tam Reservoir road until we came to the bridge across Tia Tam Upper Reservoir.
We crossed over and headed north up Mt Parker Rd. It was a beautiful walk as there had been a lot of rain and high temperatures so the trees and plants were lush. Our target was Mt Parker in eastern HK island. Mt Parker has a meteriological station
on it and 2 trig stations (532 metres). When we got to Quarry Gap (Tai Fung Au), we looked for a trail that heads up the eastern side on Mt Parker. It was hard to find . We went down a trail that we thought might lead to it but it didn’t, it was a very nice trail to walk on though, so we thought we would do it again some time, but we still had to keep looking. While we were looking we met a man who seemed to be standing where we thought the trail may be so we checked it out. No wonder we had trouble finding it, it was almost impossible to see. We walked up the trail with our new friend Dr Wong. The trail was tough! The rain had made it slippery and it was very steep and overgrown, so we slipped often. We found a very nice spot that was filled with bamboo.
When we got to the trig station
we were soaked in sweat and exhausted. It was a good placed to have lunch. We found out that Dr Wong is a doctor of Chinese medicine and knows a lot about the plants and animals around Tai Tam. He showed us lots of special plants and mushrooms used for medicine and also showed us a beehive in the rocks and a red water crab. I think this walk was tough but enjoyable, I wouldn’t recommend you to go on the trail, but I would recommend going all the way up Mt. Parker Road if you want an easy walk.
One week later, we walked on the trail we thought went up Mt. Parker. It was a very nice walk. It was a perfect day until the rain was torrential and soaked us to the skin, it wasn’t too bad because the day was warm and we were hiking so we didn’t get cold. I don’t think that many people go down there, but when we were down there we saw a couple of footprints. We thought they might’ve been a local gang so we were vigilant. There were only two or three spots where you could see the view across the valley.
I think this walk had a lot of nature but would be a lot nicer if it hadn’t been raining earlier, I would suggest you go on this walk sometime.
