Winning means fame and fortune.

Losing means certain death.

The Hunger Games have begun…

The Hunger Games is an interesting, awesome and adventurous book by Suzanne Collins. I haven’t finished the entire book yet, but I think I’ll finish it next week. So far,  16 year old Katniss Everdeen (the main character) is from District 12, one of the poorest districts out of all the districts. She lives with her mother and her 12 year old sister Primrose (Prim) Everdeen. Katniss hunts with her friend Gale Hawthorn to get food for her family. Every year, there is something called the Hunger Games. Children ages 12-18 get their name put in. The day when people from each district pick a name out of the hat, Effie Trinket (district 12′s escort) picks Prim’s name, and Katniss volunteers for Prim to be in the games, because she’s afraid Prim will get hurt. The boy representative for District 12 is Peeta Mellark. Katniss, Peeta and the other representatives go training for the games. The winner of the previous games were from the richer districts with very good weapons and skills. Katniss still tries her best with the other weapons. When the games begin, Katniss, Peeta and a few other tributes (representatives from other districts) still are alive, while the others are killed while playing the games. Katniss finds out that Peeta is with the people who are trying to kill Katniss for getting a eleven on her training test (because it’s almost impossible to get that kind of score). Katniss wants to find out why Peeta is trying to kill her.

I really liked this book because whenever I put it down, or when I have to stop at the next chapter, I always either pick the book up again, or read to the chapter after the chapter I was supposed to stop on. The Hunger Games is also put in a movie. What I really liked about this book is when Katniss was a risk-taker and trying new things like when she volunteers for Prim and when she tries different weapons. I also liked when Katniss tries and still is trying to keep her promise to Prim, she will win, that shows she is really kind to her little sister, even though she might get killed. What I didn’t like was when Katniss got mad at Peeta for no particular reason, and also when Peeta and a few other tributes from districts 1,2 and 4 try to kill Katniss. I’m really excited for the ending and I hope Peeta and the other tributes will stop trying to kill Katniss and I also hope that District 12 wins the Hunger Games. There are also 2 books after this, they are called Catching Fire (2nd book) and Mockingjay (3rd and last book). I want to read those too. I would recommend this book to girls and boys ages 11-16. Hope you can enjoy this book as much as I do!
