My Student Led Learning Review !

Today was a big day for my parents and me. It was the Student Led Learning Reviews (SLLRs). Our appointment was booked in between 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm. I was given an opportunity to share my learning journey with my parents. I was able to show them what I know and how well I have learned in class.

My mom came to school with me and my dad was on business trip, so he couldn’t make it today. We arrived at the classroom on time; I was a bit nervous but then try my best to calm down.

First, I took out a brochure from my desk and handed it to my mom. Before introduction, I asked her to go over the topics listed on the schedule, then explained to her how I would like to carry out my presentation. My mom sneak peak at the contents listed, and then asked me how many subjects I have learned in class. I replied and told her there are 10 subjects in grade 5. Subjects include UOI, Mathematics, Literacy, Technology, Art, Personal & Social, French, Performing Arts, Physical Education and Chinese. French is not compulsory.

I then walked my mom to the display panel that exhibit the new unit of UOI. She asked questions about how this UOI has changed the way I look at myself and the world. I told her I was shock at how children were treated in undeveloped countries and how lucky children are in Hong Kong. And I feel sad about all the abused and mistreatments on children. Using PSA, I can reach out and promote children’s rights to people over the world.

Next, we moved on to Maths, I showed my mom the piece of work on maths, she said my calculation was not clear and writing was messy. I needed to work on my writing and kept my work neat.

After that I went on to Literacy. I showed her three pieces of my written speeches. She was surprised my writing has improved since the last reviews.

When we talked about Technology, I told her I have none to show. The reason was due to my careless mistake and I accidentally deleting the apps I have downloaded.

We went over to our class art work that was displayed on the tables. My mom admired my talent and commended my creativity on my Dolphin Totem sculpture. She particularly liked the blue color on my art piece.

For my Personal & Social part, I pointed at my class duty roster and homework chart on the wall, further explained how teacher kept an eye on our progress homework. Mom can easily check from the homework chart and see whether I submitted my work on time.

My mom was astonished by the music piece I composed on my laptop. The Performing Arts subject allows me to be imaginative. Although there were mistake made on the time signatures and notes count on the piece of music I created, she did enjoy listening to the tunes.

I had done well in Physical Education. I told my mom that I had 2 Exceeding Expectation and 2 Meeting Expectation and she was amazed. She knew I did enjoy sport since young.

Last but not least, I have improved in Chinese. I made fewer mistakes during dictations. And I got better in Chinese writing, and I did well in my recent test.

After listening to my Waste Management individual presentation from my laptop, my mom commended my improvement in speech. She was pleased and congratulated on my hard work in class. She reminded me of other weaknesses that I needed to focus on improving, especially my attitude towards learning.

After all these hard works, the happiest news we heard was that our teacher said our class will have a celebration after we finish SLLR. I am thrilled that it’s finally over!
