- What is intuition?
Intuition is the process of understanding something instinctively, without going through the process of justification.
- What is System 1 and System 2 thinking?
System 1 and System 2 thinking are the modes of thought that are named under the topic of “intuition” and “reflection”. The modes of thinking differentiate by the effort, time and the degree of being effable. It is understood that System 1 (Intuition) is a more automatic way of thinking, which is also relatively effortless, fast and effable. In contrast, System 2 (Reflection) is a controlled way of thinking, it is known to be slower, effortful, and effable.
- How could you incorporate System 2 thinking into TOK?
Incorporating System 2 thinking into TOK will be relatively simple. This will be achieved by using a more reflective approach when understanding a new concept. Intuition can still be part of this process, however, that information must be reevaluated and justified over the course of the System 2 thinking.
