English: Short Story Reflection

After reading many short stories of other authors, it was finally time to write my own short story. I had to keep the elements of a short story in mind while I wrote, and I felt that I didn't spend enough time referring back to other stories to identify room for improvement. Here, I will write a reflection describing my thoughts and feelings about this project. One of the things I found difficult was making sure that the plot itself was more descriptive than the exposition, or the conclusion. When writing this story,…Read more …

Read more …

Writing Prompt #1: Shoe Life

Oh goody! Finally some of these lovely writing prompts. Many of my peers have done a few and I thought it would be a fun addition to my iFolio since it has been lacking posts recently. Or rather, lacking creative ideas - that's what writing prompts are known for, right? Let's see how long I can keep this series going. Anyway, for those who don't know what writing prompts are, they are simple phrases, images, or ideas that get one's creative juices jazzed up. There are a wide range of writing prompts; they come…Read more …

A Story is Incomplete Without an Ending

I was just about to open the door of grade 5 when it closed behind me. Wow. Just yesterday I received my new locker, and now I've got to leave it behind. Just yesterday I got my new state-of-the-art MacBook Pro, and now it's already out-of-date. Just yesterday Mr. Dave had his infamous hairdo, and now somebody shaved him bald (haha). Grade 5 is like a story. In fact, every single grade is like a story. There are happy moments, sad moments, angry moments, nervous moments, exciting moments, and memorable moments. The thing…Read more …

Grade 5 Camp Analogy

Topic: Grade 5 camp vs. Being on a plane ride Note that this analogy is kind of different from a regular analogy; in a way. The sun was shining through the airport window. Every once in a while, an announcement was broadcasted to the entire airport. I sat on a chair, waiting for one particular announcement. One that would probably be: “Grade 5 camp is here!” Of course it came. My heart pounded with excitement as I boarded the “plane”.  We were off! The “plane” took off into the sky... *** It was…Read more …

Room For a “Bad” Reward

I am proud to say that the "Room for..." series is back! I know it has been a long time since I did a "Room for...) post. You can check out the other "Room for..." posts up in the "Favorite Posts" tab. "Hey Dad!" Jack ran back home, tired about. "I just finished a running competition! In 3rd place!" Dad grunted. He was tired too-- at the computer table for 24 hours non-stop; it's not the best feeling. "Great," he replied sleepily. "Can we go eat ice-cream today? I finished 3rd!" Jack eagerly…Read more …

Along the Streets We Go

It's a Sunday morning. Wahoo! No school! It's time to go along the streets! You have just left your home, waiting at the bus stop for bus number 592. Birds were chirping, and people were busily waking up and leaving home. Among those people were many filipino maids, who have worked hard for the whole week until this day. This day is the only day in the week that the maids get a break. Many other buses kept pulling up, and loading people in. The bakeries have just opened, and you can smell…Read more …

Room For Imagination

It is September the 11th, 2015. You are a commercial pilot flying the state-of-the-art Boeing 787. Your plane took off from Boston Logan Airport, and you are cleared to cruising altitude, 38,000 feet... Boom! Suddenly, all in a second, 5 hijackers crash into the aircraft. They request you to head to John F Kennedy airport, in New York. You have no idea what is going in the hijackers' minds, so you decide to head to New York. The hijackers were looking at each other, and one of them (presumably the leader) uses the…Read more …

Room For Interpretation

It is a Sunday morning. You wake up and hear your mom saying: "Time to wake up. Sunday morning teatime!" Now, you are doing your Chinese homework. "Ugh... I don't want to do this! Ugh... It's too hard! Time to take a break," you say to yourself. You go to the playground, keeping in mind that play is important, although it may not be true. Hours and hours have gone by, and you are still covered with sweat glands and loaded with happiness. Your mind is jingling with fun thoughts of watching TV…Read more …
