Judge a Book By Its Cover: Final Book Jacket

Hello. For our MYP design project, we were asked to create a book jacket for a certain book. They say not to judge a book by its cover, but unfortunately that is not necessarily the case. At a bookstore, different audiences are interested by different covers and the design elements included in those covers are crucial to a book's success, regardless of the content. It is a natural instinct for us to be interested in something that appeals at first sight. Taking on the role of a designer, I have followed the design…Read more …

Judge a Book By Its Cover: Design Mock-ups

Recently, we have been assigned a task - to design a book cover. Not an easy task. Designers must go through many steps in order to be successful, and one of those steps is what I like to call "Trial and Error". Designers spend a long time putting different ideas to paper, but due to time constraints, I will only share two of my mock-ups today. I would like your feedback on these two mock-ups. They are completely different ideas. However, keep in mind that my target audience are Grade 5 students. Do…Read more …

Bubble.us for Learning

The art of mind-map-making should have been done a lot earlier. Except that Van Gough didn't have a laptop. And he didn't have Bubble.us. Yes, it is great mind-map-making tool that introduces you to the basic skills of technology, great for starters and students for a good learning tool. Within a matter of seconds, Bubble.us can allow you to create an interactive mind map that can really help you as an education tool, as information can be displayed using this type of graphic organizer. Bubble.us can also help beginners learn more technology tips…Read more …

Mythical Creature – Purely Using Technology

Ah, here it is, purely using technology, a mythical creature. Interesting, eh? And I'll give it a name of Bob. Why not, Bob. Bob is a great name, because people underrate it. And if your name is Bob, props to you. It wasn't a coincidence really, consider the amount of people named Bob. Except this one is not a builder, this one is kind of wacky. And when Bob sticks his octopus fingers out, he'll sting you to death. Yeah. Literally, you should really watch out. It could end humanity. Trust me on…Read more …

Properties of 2D and 3D Shapes

Here is my math menu activity for 2D and 3D shapes. It is an auditory learner activity. It's a lot easier to see the words if you watch in full screen with 1080p turned on, so if it is not possible to 'full-screen-ize' the video, click the little Youtube icon to watch the video on Youtube. That way, you can turn full screen mode on.Read more …

PSA

I rushed this one through, since I missed 4 periods of PSA time... All because of a piano exam and the BOB competition. A PSA, or a public service announcement, is a type of informal media meant to persuade an audience to take action. My PSA aims for a) inform readers about Article 27 of the UNCRC, b) Persuade readers to take action.Read more …

SOPA, PIPA Give Us Freedom (+ACTA)

This is a short but very, very, serious matter. It serves as a vote to oppose SOPA and PIPA. Wikipedia, Reddit, Wordpress, and many sites have blacked out for a while to protest about what SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act), and PIPA (Protect IP Act) are doing. Here is what is happening in a nutshell. I completely agree. A website shouldn't be shut down just because a user had some copyright issues, and even worse, sometimes copyright issues aren't even alive, but SOPA (and PIPA) can still have the ability to shut it…Read more …

An Observation About Machine Translation

In the last post, I wrote about homework stress and how to get rid of them. I tried an experiment today using Google Translate: I copied my text and transferred it back and forth from English to different languages. I did this for 7 times (languages) and instead of the same English text popping out of the other end, here is what I got: It is a duty for all students, homework, or 11:00, "stress" at work and it is difficult to change, "House of stress," but personally, I love home, but "lazy"…Read more …

Safe Chat PREZI Summative Assessment

This is my PREZI summative assessment on How We Express Ourselves. I created a PREZI presentation on my make up communication tool called Safe Chat. I created this PREZI to show the problems on current networking sites, and the advantages of Safe Chat. I made my fonts large and easy to read. I also posted a lot of photos and a diagram. Perhaps I can reduce the amount of words and turn them into jot notes that I can refer to, instead of having a big paragraph of words that I read out…Read more …
