P.E. Reflection

by 053524 on February 6, 2013

On February 4th, 2013, Mr. Marc Steiner, our P.E. teacher gave us a homework in which we have to answer a few questions about team sport.

1. What does sportsmanship mean to you/look like to you? Give some examples.

To me, sportsmanship means playing fair obeying the rules of a game. Sportsmanship is when a team plays well and cooperates together. For example, when you lose a game of a sport, you should go up to the other team and congratulate and thanks the opposing team. Sportsmanship is also teamwork, working together and supporting each other. Another example is when a friend or a team mate is about to shoot a goal, you can give some supporting words such as: You can do it!, or Good luck!. That would be sportsmanship to because they are working together and supporting one another.

2. Why is it important to follow the rules of a game?

It is very important to follow the rules of games because if you do not follow the rules, you could get hurt or instead hurt someone else. With rules, you can enjoy the game more and also have more fun since you know that it would be safer. It is also very important to follow rules of the games because if you do not, you won’t have a fair match. If you follow the rules, other team mates or the opposing team will not keep annoying you about how you were cheating.

3. Why are good team strategies important to success in team games? Give examples of strategies for team handball?  How would you create and/or deny space in team handball?

Good team strategies are important to success in team games because everyone will understand and know how to do what they have to do, what to do, who to pass to, who to block the ball from, and how to win against the opposing team. If we have good team strategies, there will not be many confusions and it is also very simple to score or win the match. One good strategy for any game, is to spread out across the field, and then pass to your other team mates until you reach the goal, and then you can score a successful goal. If the players block you and deny space, then you should move closer to your team and pass the ball to whoever is closer to you.  A “Hand Ball” strategy is to pass the ball across the vast field or gym to different people in your group and move towards the goalie. The person nearest to the goal shoots and will try to score. You create space by moving around into an area where there is not a lot or no defense and go there and ask other to pass the ball to you. You deny space by moving into an area where the player is either passing or passing to and try to block the ball from being pass to them, being scored into the goal or being thrown to. You can also deny space by pushing up against the opposing player and surrounding them so that they can’t find space to pass or score.

4. What is a strategy you/your team used in “Capture the Flag” to be more successful?

A “Capture the Flag” strategy would be different from the “Hand Ball” strategy. A “Capture the Flag” strategy could be where a about two thirds of the team stay on defense while the tagging runners would try to steal the ball, tag people who are going to save the people in the jail and the distractions while the rest run and try to escape with the flag.

5. Describe why having strong skills helps your team be more successful? Give some examples of skills with a specific team sport in mind.

Having strong skills help your team because with these skills you can help at scoring goals, staying on defense or passing others. Also, if you have strong skills then it will be easier to devise a strategy where you can contribute your skills and win the match. Although, if you do not have good skills, then you are possibly going to lose the match because you haven’t practiced or contributed to  anything in game.

In “Capture the Flag” it is very important to be good at running because you have to run fast enough to dodge from being tagged. You have to be good at stealing the flag, because it is best to be stealthy so that other people don’t notice you as much like a lion in a neon pink coloured skirt. You also have to be very alerted because if you are on defense, it is usually best to be alert just in case anybody tries to sneak past you and either get the flag or save someone from the jail.

6. Why does a team that is very physically fit have an advantage over a team that is not fit?

The team that is very physically fit has an better advantage over a team that is not fit because they can beat the weaker team and take the opportunities to score. The weaker team will not have as much advantages, and will also not be able to score any goals because the stronger team can beat them easily with their pro skills. Also, the un -fit team will run out of energy half way through the game because they do not have the endurance to keep going, letting the stronger team have even more stronger opportunities to win in the match.

Grade 6 Camp Reflection

by 053524 on December 3, 2012

Grade 6 Camp was so pleasant, energetic, and entertaining.  The camp took place in Zhao Qing, China.  Some people didn’t go to camp because their parents were afraid that their kids would not be safe there or maybe they didn’t go just because the students themselves were afraid.  We went for four days and three nights, From November 27th to November 30th.  There were lots of activities and they were all very enjoyable. The activities included: Cableway Hike, The Great Race, Paper Making, Ink Stones, and Chinese Painting.  Although it was really cold at Zhao Qing, everyone was still able to keep fairly warm because we all had to bring something to keep us warm. My favourite activity was probably the Cableway Hike. It was my first time to walk on a cable. At first, I felt kind of nervous because on of the instructors said that someone fell into the waterfall.
