Book Club

A few days ago we started a book club, the book my group is reading currently is “I am a Taxi”by Deborah Ellis. So far I have read up to chapter 3. “I am a Taxi” is about a boy and his family who went to jail because the police thought they were smuggling something but it wasn’t theirs, his dad is in the men’s jail but his mother, his little sister and he is in some other jail. They have to get money to pay for their cell by his mom sowing dresses and selling them. The reason the book is called I am a taxi is because the boy does little jobs for people, like delivering a letter or buying some food for somebody. So far the book isn’t at all interesting, but I hope in the next few chapters it will become better and really makes me want to know what happens next. I think maybe later he will earn lots of money and have enough to get better food and a home. What I don’t get is why he went to jail even though they didn’t do anything wrong.
