Mid-Unit Reflection

Our unit is about child rights and how children in the world aren’t getting their proper rights, and instead put in child labor or the army or other harmful places. Our key concepts are for this unit: responsibility and causation. I’ve learned that children are being put to labor in lots of countries, most commonly in Iran, Pakistan, and undeveloped countries, unlike Hong Kong. I’ve also learned about some of the charities involved in helping children’s rights and some of the rights. I think that the most important that I’ve learned so far is about child heroes, and how they’ve helped. Like Iqbal Masih, who helped children escape out a child laboring carpet factory. Also like Ryan Hrejiac, who helped make a well with clean, fresh water by getting people to help donate money, who was just an ordinary kid. The most surprising thing I’ve learned is also about child heroes, and how they’ve helped so well even when they’re extremely young! If I could join an organization that helps children, I think that I would join UNICEF or Spread the Words, because they are both great charities, although UNICEF is more well known, Spread the Words is great too, because it was founded by a child hero named Tatiana Grossman, and still works as hard as UNICEF. People can deny children’s rights by forcing them to do child labor, or not HIV/AIDS, or denying them the chance to make a difference, or denying them a chance to have education, or denying them the chance to be what they want to be. I think that the one article of child rights I will be doing a PSA on is the right to have the right. I think I’ll do this because this I think is overall the most important, and if you look at just this one, you’ll see all the other rights and how important they are. This unit makes feel about all the injustice and unfairness that people are doing to children. If a child is poor, what makes it so that they especially will be chosen to work in carpet factories or other factories? There are millions of kids that are being held in labor or in the army, and it seems that nobody is caring! Even though the charities are working hard, it’s not making much of a difference. I feel that the child rights should be enhanced by a lot, so every child has the right to be free and determine their life. I think that we should help the children that do not have their proper rights and make sure that every child will live their life freely.
