Which 2 events were most significant of the twentieth century?
How did these events shape the 20th century?
The 2 most significant events of the twentieth century in my opinion would be WWII & and the Moonlandings. Although the question was to chose 2 significant events, I consider WWII and the moonlandings to be one significant chapter of human history, this is because the moonlandings were in response to the cold war, and the cold war was sparked after WWII ended and the two world superpowers wanted to faceoff in technology to see which one was the ultimate nation. The reason why I thought WWII and the moonlandings were important was because of the advances in technology, from the beginning of WWII when there were still propeller driven aircraft, to the end of the cold war when the US put a man on the moon and the first stealth fighter. These events accelerated military and space technology for developed nations to think twice before starting a war because of the invention of the atomic bomb, now that the idea of instant destruction wasn’t impossible, it was more encouraging to solve problem politically than to start a war. And also for mankind to fulfill the dream of reaching the moon, this created the idea that nothing was impossible which reassured and inspired the generations ahead that it was ok to dream big.
