The whole grade 6 will be going to Macau for a field trip for 2 nights! We will be going on the 14th of March and coming back on the 16th! I am very excited because it is my first time out of Hong Kong without my parents, and all the fun I will be experiencing! The only thing I will be worrying about is being sad because I forgot to bring something for the trip! We will be visiting lots of tourist attractions like Leal Senado and Mount Fortress. I hope it will be a fun experience for both me and my classmates.

The Greatest Invention of All

I think the greatest invention is the Internet. I think it is the greatest invention because it helps us surf the web. We can learn, play, and socialize on the Internet. It is also a better choice than reading a book because you just have to search what your looking while books you have to go to the table of contents and find the right page. The web is also a great place to play games. It is a place where everyone can submit their own games and play other people’s games. The good things about playing games on the Internet are because a lot of them are free. The socializing networks are a great breakthrough in Internet browsers; you can talk to friends immediately, play games with friends and express your feelings. It is better than e-mail because e-mail doesn’t have specific posts for you to express your feeling or any functions to play games.  It is also better than mail because it doesn’t waste money on post, faster and more fun. All of these are the advantages of having the Internet. If the internet doesn’t exists, there wouldn’t be piracy in products and games.

The Internet is the best way for pirates to share information since they can pass on files through unusual files. I don’t know why people share infringed products, don’t they get arrested?

The Cove & Sharkwater Similarities and Diffrences

On Friday, All of the grade 6 classes went to the Leo Lee Arts Center to watch a documentary called Sharkwater. It was a documentary that was similar to The Cove. The two films talked about extinction of sea mammals and how people are taking actions. But, Sharkwater talked about shark fining while The Cove talked about dolphin slaughtering. Rob Stewart was the main character in Sharkwater; He had a passion about sharks since he was small. When he grew up, he went with the Sea Shepherd crew to stop shark fining. They went to Costa Rica and the Galapagos Islands to stop the fining. They choose that area because it is where the last shark sanctuaries are based. A few people were arrested after all the action. The Cove only had one major action while Sharkwater had different actions. The Cove was different in another way because it didn’t provoke a lot of people in the Taji to take action while Sharkwater provoked Costa Ricans to take action on the illegal fining. They were very similar because they educated a lot of people while taking action.

Post your opinion on the similarities and differences of the two movies.

The Cove Movie Thoughts & Feelings

Grade 6 classes went to the LLAC to watch the documentary, The Cove.  The documentary talked about fishermen in Tanji, Japan secretly slaughtering dolphins in a sealed off cove. Former Dolphin Trainer, Ric’O Barry  and some activists traveled to Japan to try to get some evidence of this slaughtering. They had plans to put cameras in the trees overlooking the cove, underwater cameras in the cove and other recording equipment. They worked at night to prevent any suspicion from the police and fishermen. The police have been following these activists very closely, following them to every place they went. They successfully recorded the cruel footage of dolphins being slaughtered. They showed it to a lot of people including people from the Japan Fisheries Agency, the people in the International Whaling Commission. In spite of this effort, the dolphin slaughtering still hasn’t stopped!

I felt sad that dolphins are being killed cruelly  in Japan, I though that they were a sea mammal that everyone adores and loves. I think the dolphins should be wild and free but If if they are in captivity, they should be treated fairly and humanely. They shouldn’t slaughter them because I don’t think I lot of people eat dolphins because the tradition is basically not followed by a lot of people anymore. I also think the Japanese Government’s behavior was unacceptable, I’m sure they know that the cute dolphins are getting killed but are not telling anyone. They should ask for the community’s opinion and make some policy instead of just doing everything they want. I think as students we should educate the community about it to prevent furthur incidents.

Go to 1:58 to see what the Japanese are doing with dolphins.
