Grade 9 Simulations – My Reflection

by 043311 on May 27, 2011

On the 26th of May, grade 5B and grade 5D did an activity. The action was to learn more about the world. It was Ms. Draper’s class and it was for their Civics class. There were the Immigration, Living Standards, Cyber Safety, Refugees, Land mines, Malnutrition and Slums. There were also color groups and the colors were orange, red, dark blue, light blue, black and green. I was in the orange group. I did the Immigration, Living Standards, and the Slums. I thought that all of those activities were challenging and a bit scary.

In the Immigration activity, we were given a fake persons name, details, and maybe a disability. I was a person named Raymond or something, I am a writer, and I was blind. There were a few stations that we had to go through. It was that we had to fill in our details, go under a chair, over a table, go over a flipped over chair, go under 2 chairs, and then we had to answer a few questions from the Immigration center. This was to show us how hard it is to go somewhere else.

Next, it was the Living Standards activity. We were separated in to kinds of people and they were the poor and the rich. The poor people had to fold up newspapers and neatly and the rich people can either donate money to the poor or shop till they drop. I was in the poor people group. This was to show how large the range was in Hong Kong from the rich and poor.

Finally, there were the Slums. In this activity, we had to be paired up with someone and having someone as our mom or dad. Then, they turned off all the lights and made noises like it was in real life. I was the child and I was taken away. This was to show us what it was when it rained in Kenya.

I thought all of the activities were challenging but still fun. I hope this helped the grade 9 students. :)

WOW! You explained a lot 5 paragraphs? That’s a lot, but it’s still really good explanation, I loved how you put a smily face.
