From May 6-11 we went to Chiang Rai, Thailand. Grade 7 stayed in a resort called the Maekok River Village Resort. We did many many different fun and challenging activities. We did Archery, Confidence Course, Cooking, Jungle Survival, Kayaking, and others. I felt like this was the best school trip I’ve ever been to because we had a lot of fun, we learned new things, and the resort/scene was beautiful!

If I had to pick 2 leaner profile attributes that described me best on the trip, I would say that I was a risk-taker and a communicator. I believe that I was a risk-taker because I’ve done many different activities that went beyond my limit, and I was really happy I tried them because now I am more brave. I was also a risk-taker because on the climbing wall, I get really scared when I climb, but I tried doing the 2nd hardest climbing wall. I was a risk-taker because I don’t usually like eating Thai food, especially the spicy food, but during the trip I got to try a different style of food and I really liked it. During the trip, I thought that I was a good communicator because when we went to a local school to do some activities, I wasn’t afraid to talk to them. I played the games they wanted to play, I taught them some english, and I asked them some questions. I was also a communicator because I encouraged a lot of people to do things they were afraid to do. For example, on the climbing wall I encouraged my friends to continue climbing the wall because she wanted to give up, but my friends and I helped get to the top.

Describe a time when you faced a challenge on the trip. How did you overcome it?

On the trip, I faced 2 challenges. The climbing wall, and the confidence course. On the confidence course, I was really scared to try it because I saw a lot of people falling in the water, and it looked really hard. When it was my turn, I said to myself to try my best. After, I was able to finish the confidence course and I felt really proud of myself for not giving up. When I was on the climbing wall, I tried to do one of the hardest walls. I got stuck in the middle of the climbing wall and didn’t have the energy to pull myself up again. I kept giving up and asking people to let me down, but my team mates helped encourage me to continue and in the end I was able to finish the climbing wall. Though my hands and legs were really tired and in pain, I felt more confident, brave, and proud of myself.

What was it like to be away from your family for a week?

For some strange reason, I was enjoying the trip so much that I didn’t really miss my family and Hong Kong. The only thing I missed was my bed because my bed was soooooo much comfier than the beds in the resort. I didn’t miss my family so much because I had my friends to hang out with, I was able to do so many different activities that I could never do in Hong Kong.

^This is a picture of the confidence course. It was one of the highlights of my trip!

Hello!

In school, the teachers thought it would be a very good idea if each student did at least 1 community service in school, and 1 out of school. I am now writing to tell you what I did! I hope that someday you guys might try volunteering to help.

In School:

In the beginning of school, the teachers of grades 7-12 had a curriculum night. That’s when all the parents go to the students classroom so the teachers can tell them what we do in class. The school needed some students to help lead the parents to the classroom they want to go to, and help them when they get lost. So, I decided to volunteer. I thought it was really fun because I could talk to the parents, help them when they needed help. I felt good after that because I helped people.

Outside of school:

I volunteered for Crossroads. Crossroads is a place where they help refugees and people in need. I volunteered to clean some furniture that people donated. Crossroads has a warehouse of furniture, and they try to make it as nice as possible so when the people in need come in, it would feel like they are entering a store in Gucci. They would let the people in need pick whatever furniture they want, and they would be able to keep it for free! I thought this was so fun and good for me because in the end I felt good that I helped people have better lives. I recommend Crossroads for people who want to help out he community.

Here is a picture of the Crossroads volunteering day:

HELLO,

Guess what we did in math today? We did….

Algebraic Patterns! Here is what I feel about this subject…

In algebraic patterns, I really liked doing the in and out table because it always gets me thinking, always looking for the input/output and always using the different operations to find out the answers. (x,÷,-,+,exponents) Although I really enjoyed the activities we’ve veen doing, I have to say that my least favorite activity is the number sequences. I’m not really a fan of number sequences because I find them hard and confusing because they don’t just use x.÷.-.+ etc. They use different numbers to find the answers like: 66, 14, 7. You have to find out how to do it. The pattern was 6+6=12, 12+2=14, 1+4=5 5+2=7.

I think I learned how to find the rule for the different patterns really well because at first I didn’t have a single clue on some easy ways to find out the rule.

Overall, I enjoyed this unit and I learned a lot from it. I remember the first time I took the pre-assessment test, I didn’t know how to answer most of the questions, now I’m sure that if I look back at the test, I can answer the questions with the correct answer.

I think that algebraic patterns can help in life because you will be able to count things easier. For example, if you want to know how many people can seat in each table because you are preparing for a big party, you can use patterns and rules to help you with it.

Here is something that we did in class that helped me A LOT

This is the dinner table problem, we were supposed to find out how many people can sit in each table.

Until the next post, BYE BYE!

Hey,

In humanities, we have recently finished a unit about Shi Huang Di and what he did. I learned a lot of things about Shi Huang Di. At first, I had no idea who he was, I didn’t know how he was so famous, I didn’t know what he did. Now, I know that he was the first and most famous Chinese Emperor in hIsTORy! I also know that he was able to unify China as one country, and had many great achievements. For example, he standardized money, built the Great Wall of China, and also built the terracotta warriors.

I learnt a lot of skills from this unit, and I think that as I get to higher grades, I will definitely use the skills. I learned how to write, paragraphs, essays, and how to write fluent sentences. These skills really helped me to improve, and I will sure use it next time!

I really enjoyed this unit because it gave me a chance to learn about someone new, and learn new skills that I can use next time

Charles Darwin’s Evolution of Animals and Species.

By: Kristle Lee #14 7B

Abstract:

Charles Darwin was interested in proving that species of life on Earth did not come individually, they came from a common ancestor. He went on a five year voyage to map the South American coast line. He collected hundreds of species of plants and different animals. Because of the voyage, he created Theory of Evolution. (Famousscientsts)

Introduction:

Charles Darwin was a scientist that was interested in finding out about how animals and species of have evolved over time. His five year voyage to map the South American coast line help him get more information. (Darwin, Charles.” Encyclopedia Britannica Online School Edition 1) Before and after his trip, he has done a lot of research to find out the real answer.

Results:

Charles Darwin’s goal was to prove to people that species of life on earth didn’t come individually, they came from a common ancestor. Even before Darwin went on the HMS Beagle, he was interested in the evolution of animals and species. When Charles Darwin got the job to sail on the HMS Beagle with other scientists, it was his chance to finally found the truth of what he was trying to prove.

Sailing on the HMS Beagle for five years was a once in a life time opportunity for Charles Darwin to prove that all the research he has done was worth it. The main purpose for the five year voyage was to map the South American coast line. While sailing, Charles Darwin collected hundreds of information about animals and species of plants. His most famous discovery was when he sailed to the Galapagos Island to study how finches were different from island to island (Charles Darwin. BrainPOP). After spending sometime there, he brought back thousands of fossils and specimens to be examined. (“Darwin, Charles.” Britannica Student Encyclopedia. Encyclopædia Britannica

Online School Edition. 2)

Charles Darwin’s solution was very effective because he wrote a book that included everything that he found, discovered, or collected during his five year voyage. His book is called “The Origins of Species, by Means of Natural Selections.” Another reason was because he was able to find out why animals and plants have evolved over time. He called that process “Natural Selection” Darwin found out that tiny changes in animals or plants have been accumulating over hundreds or thousands of years, even until now. After finding out everything he needed to know, he created the “Theory of Evolution” Many people with religious beliefs opposed is Theory of Evolution, they preferred their “Theory of

creationism” (“Darwin, Charles.” Britannica Student Encyclopedia. Encyclopædia Britannica

Online School Edition. 3)

Charles Darwin has a moral implication because he knows his information and his Theory of Evolution correct, but many people with religious beliefs will think it is wrong because they believe another theory which is the Theory of Creationism. (“Darwin, Charles.” Britannica Student Encyclopedia. Encyclopædia Britannica

Online School Edition. 3)

Discussion:

We now know that animals and species of plants have evolved over time even if it was just a little bit. We also know that everyone comes from a common ancestor. Charles Darwin has helped us learn that animals and plants did not come individually, and from his Theory of Evolution we can check to see if he is correct. (Charles Darwin. BrainPOP)
