Reflection on Grade 5 2010-2011

I have had a fantastic year this year! We got our own computer; our own locker, we learnt how to speak French and we changed our school uniform. Uniform. We changed our uniform this year. I think this uniform is much more comfortable than last year’s uniform. This year we have a khaki pleated skirt; there were also a khaki Pleated skort. Skorts are a skirt with pants connected to them. Our P.E kit also changed this year we have polyester knit shirt and polyester knit pants; they’re really comfortable!

 

We went to all different kinds of field trips. These are the field trips we went to:  Art Jam, Ecopark, Landfill, Cemetery, Dig Day, and History Museum. My favorite field trip was art jam because I really like painting. I also liked Dig day because we got to be archeologist and we got to try and find all the pieces to some of the artifacts.

 

Camp was AWESOME!! I had so much fun the only problem was the mosquitoes. The first we went there we separated into our color groups I was the Orange group we were called the Tangerine army, the other teams are called Flaming chili peppers, The blue gangsters, Green eggs and ham, Lemon squash. We had a Chant competition we got second! The flaming chili peppers got first; actually they were pretty good. We also made a Tie-Dye shirt and made bread. Sadly the bread did not work out because the camp members could not get the fire going. I shared a room with 5 other friends of mine.

 

UOI. We did 6 UOI units. The units were: How We Organize Ourselves, How The World Works, How We Organize Ourselves, Sharing The Planet, Where We Are In Place And Time, Who We Are. My favorite unit was How We Organize Ourselves because it was really fun learning how to use Prezi and making up our own technology.

 

Concert. In music we did a concert called let’s make it happen it was really fun!

 

Music. I love music it is really fun because it shows the creative side of everyone. My favorite part of music was when we made our own song.

 

Art. We did three pieces of art this year. These are the artwork we have done: Mosaics made out of stone, Artifacts made out of clay for Dig Day. We also did Kandinsky art; we searched on the web to find who was Kandinsky and we drew our own Kandinsky art.

 

Languages. French. Learning a new Language is a bit of a challenge. However, it was really fun learning French. Chinese. I learnt a lot of new stories in Chinese and a lot of new Chinese words this year. Chinese was fine this year.

 

Math. This year we did a lot more math compared to last year. Every morning or almost every morning we did math from eight o’clock all the way to nine twenty. I actually never knew how much fun math could be. I always thought it was boring but now I love math. We learnt about Place value, Decimals, and Problem solving.

 

Activities. Sports day. We had two sports days this year. One of them we were helping out grades three and four’s for their sports day. The other sports day was for us. It was AWESOME!!! We played so many games and races. We played capture the flag, Tug of war, Running Long Jump, Hopsack relays and Ball throw.  The races we ran were 100-meter race, 200-meter race, 400-meter race, and 800-meter race, Relay race. I won four medals! I won 2 gold and I also won 2 silver. The gold was for running long jump. The other gold was for the relay race. The silver was for 100 meter and 800-meter race I was so close to getting gold on 100 meter. For our other sports day I was a group leader and I had to take care of a group of 9 year olds. It was actually pretty fun we played the same games as we did in our sport’s day. I LOVE sports day! Festival Of The Arts. In the week of Festival Of The Arts we had some really fun Activities. We had a dance lesson from Red Shoe, we watched the student show case, our class went to the LLAC (Leo Lee Art Centre), and our class also did Rainbow Calligraphy. I did not to the rainbow calligraphy though because I went to china. On one Friday morning we hosted an assembly we did a skit about Iqbal and a skit of the three little pigs in French. Visitors from Beijing. One morning we had a few visitors come in from Beijing some people in our class volunteered to take care of one of the visitors to go to their house. On one Friday our class had to host an assembly. I came up with the idea to do a skit on a chapter of Iqbal. Iqbal is a book we red in class.

 

China Trip! On Friday when we had the rainbow calligraphy nineteen other people and me missed it and went to china. We went to china because we were wanted to learn about China’s culture and also because it was a learning experience. I was really lucky to go because the pick twenty people out of one hat and 3 of my friends got to go I was so happy! We got to meet some of the Chinese people who lived there and we each got a buddy to speak Chinese with it was so cool! It was so stunning in China. I wish we could go to China next year too!

 

Learner profiles. I think this year I was caring and Risk taker. I was caring because I also was nice to my friends and I am not mean. I was a risk taker this year because I tried a lot of new things.

 

Physical Education is really fun I love running around and being active. My favorite Physical Education unit was soccer.

 

Assessment. Three-way conference, it is actually pretty good because our parents can learn about what we are doing in school. Student Led Learning Review is just like the Three way learning review but instead we walk around and show our parents our work instead of telling them our work. I think this year my reports were pretty good this year compared to last year. Portfolios, I think my portfolio is good and has lots of cool information in it.

 

Expectations in grade 5. This year we had a lot of different expectations compared to grade 4. We had question that we never thought about like a really obvious question, such as So What? All the teachers apart from Mr. Lalwani have been doing the same thing. They always ask the same questions. I have always expected that all teachers will be like that. I was prepared for grade 5 to be like all the other grades, but this grade was different in a good way. I hope next year will be as challenging as this year. Responsibility. We had much more responsibility because we had to take care of our OWN laptop. We also have to be more in charge of ourselves instead of depending on other people; WE had to make our own choices and decisions. We worked more independent in places and we worked together with people more.
