Science Court Case

by 043089 on April 29, 2013

I do not agree with the jury because:

2.a) The prosecution side would sometimes forget which side they’re on and ask questions that help the defense side. This shows that they’re un-organized and forget all their facts that they gathered. This also shows that they might not completely believe what they are saying. Therefore they could also be supporting the defense team.

1.b) When the prosecution side was presenting their information we said a lot of good questions to challenge them. They would sometimes have to admit that KMT is real because of the way the experiment went. Even though KMT is proven correct you still should really try to prove KMT wrong if you’re trying to defend it.

1.c) When the defense team presented our information we would also prove these facts by using the KMT sheet. It’s very good that we used our resources well, because then we have more proof then just our words. They would also stick to their side, they never stopped trying to prove KMT even if the question is really challenging to answer.

2.d)  As shown in the first picture at the top Jonathan alone is presenting. When he presented his information he was very one-sided and proved many facts. As shown in the picture he was showing statistics this is very good because when trying to prove something he uses all his information. You NEED to do this because you have to relate what you found to how it proves KMT.

2.e) Lastly I don’t agree with the jury because the prosecution team would always think before asking a question. The defense team would throw out so many different questions that weren’t too hard to answer, but the prosecution team didn’t ask many questions. This is because they thought about the question a lot before asking it, this is very good because then when they did ask a question it was a super challenging question.

3. My job was to do expert witness  boiling and melting point. I wasn’t at school on the day of my presentation but i did help tell my group members what they could say. I helped make the poster a lot and I was giving advice to any other members of my group when needed.

4. If i could do a different job I definitely would’ve been the photographer. I would love to be the photographer because I love to take photos. I love to take photos because photos express a meaning without words, since i’m on the defense side I would’ve taken pictures of all the statistics we used and maybe a video about how well we were doing ;) .

5. I learnt how bubbles were formed and how this proves KMT very well. I learnt a lot about molecules and I now know why the gas molecules change in to bubbles.

6.  I am improved as a scientist during the KMT investigations because I learnt a lot more about KMT. I also learnt how to be very careful with the equipment that I was using especially when I was doing the melting and boiling expirenment. Since the thermometer got super hot.

Fractions & Decimals

by 043089 on April 12, 2013

Where would you fall on the stress and learning graph?

I would fall on 4 for the stress and learning graph because i learned a lot and it was challenging for me but not too challenging. I learnt a lot in this unit and before the test a studied a lot and i was very prepared. But when it came to the test i slept a bit too late the night before and i completely blanked out :/. If i took the test again I would’ve done a lot better, by sleeping earlier and eating a big breakfast.

What was challenging about this unit? What was easy?

The most challenging thing about this unit was the algebraic questions. For example in the test question number 17 was really hard because of all the different letters. It was also very challenging because we hadn’t learnt that before and  because exponents were part of it too. The easiest part was probably changing numbers from fractions to percentage then to decimals or vice versa. I found this easy because I found out a rule for changing them to each other. The rule was simple and could apply to any question.

How was your effort in class and at home reflected in your assessment results?

In class and at home I did all my homework, studied a lot, and tried really hard if I didn’t blank out then all i learnt and all i studied would come out in my test. I would’ve gotten a very good grade and all my answers will make sense.

What activities did you like in this unit?

I liked converting fractions decimals and percentages because sometimes it was challenging but it was fun challenging. I also liked it because the more I do it the more comfortable I am with it. Therefore, it is much easier for me.

1984

1984

Kyra Johnston 19/3/2013

Many events happened in 1984, I am going to tell you a few of them. On February 20th it was the first day for the hong kong horse races. Right now we still watch Hong Kong races lose some money and gain some. On the 25th of April there was a large “tornado in the Shun Tak district, Kwangtung about 1,000 lives lost and a lot of destroyed property” (Events in Hong Kong and the Far East pg.123). On the 21st of June there was another “tornado in the Namhoi and Shuntak districts, Kwangtung, more than 200 destroyed buildings, 60 people killed” (Events in Hong Kong and the Far East pg.125). On the 29th of July Hongkong and China Tramways Co., Limited came to Hong Kong. A lot of us still use the tram as transportation even though this was made such a long time ago people are still using it. If we didn’t have trams then we probably wouldn’t of thought of the idea of buses since they are very alike. In september the 10th there was a typhoon in Hong Kong, and the “indo-China steamer Taisang driven ashore on the Praya, Indonesia but floated off the next morning” (Events in Hong Kong and the Far East pg.128). On the 16th of december a large “fire at Hung Hann, British Kowloon, almost the whole village was destroyed” (Events in Hong Kong and the Far East pg.134). There are many other events that happened in 1984 that didn’t effect the world right now. But there are many that effected many of our lives, or our environments.

Reflection on D.E.A.D. day

by 043089 on March 19, 2013

I like that we learnt how to create a website. I think that learning how to create a website is a very effective way of writing brief reflections and sorting out all our information. I also liked that we had small meetings after every work time just to check in and see where everyone is.

I wish that when we work on the Design cycle my group will work effectively. I also wish that we could have another design day further in the design cycle process so we can check in with Mr.Larson, and work effectively for a long time.

What if next time we could do some more activities as a group to warm up before going right into our group. Also next time we could have one more small break since it is really hard to work for so long.

Math: Pattern unit reflection

by 043089 on January 25, 2013

What did I most like about our pattern unit?

I most liked finding the variable because when i’ve found the variable I feel so relieved. I feel that it is also fun to find the variable and applying the rule to other numbers. This is sometimes a bit of a challenge but it’s till very fun.

What did I like least?

I liked least when I’m trying really hard to find the variable and I can’t find it. I like this the least because it’s really frustrating to do something else while you’re stuck.

What do I think I learned really well?

I think that I learnt finding the variable really well because I found out a way to find the variable easily. Which really helped me in this unit when I was stuck. Also Ms.Kirchner talked a lot about it which helped a lot.

What questions do you still have?

I don’t have any questions that haven’t been answered for this unit.

Why is the study of Patterns important? How has it or can it help you in life?

The study of patterns is important because when you need to figure out money for a bank you can use it. For example if you told each of your children that you would give them x amount of money if they did x. You can use those patterns for donation like the swimming donation.

A Reflection on My Birdie

by 043089 on January 22, 2013

Hi everyone!

During I think during class I spent my time effectively because I worked really hard on my bird but I worked a bit too slow. To have better time management I think that I should’ve finished my bird a bit faster so I can work more on the important part of writing my essay. Overall, I think that my time management was pretty good

If I had to start again I would definitely work more on my writing my essay rather than creating my bird. Since my bird isn’t being market therefore, i should be spending more team on the thing that is going to be marked.

While making my bird I was planning to have wings that touch in a full circle but then I had to change it. Since making that would be too hard so I made wings that flipped up. A small thing like that you would have to change in your essay. During the process I should’ve have done a bit more research to gain a main knowledge.

Shi Huang Di AOI

by 043089 on December 6, 2012

In humanities we are studying Shi Huang Si. I am looking at Health and Social education as the area of interaction because Shi Huang Di impacted china’s health because he connected the great wall of china, which saved many lives. He also affected china’s social education because he standardized the measurements which helped people in school, university, and or college. This affected education because now we are still using his language which he unified in the Qin dynasty.

When I finished the Lorax, I figured out that both Human Ingenuity and Environment fit into it according to the notes thatI took. After looking at the man-made beach article, I think that it relates more to Human Ingenuity because the whole article is based on building a man made beach. It will really affect the environment but the article is not really based on the environment. They affect each other very much because of all the pollution that some of the animals could die, and also a lot of people could get sick if there is too much pollution that could come out of the machines/inventions that we build. In the article, they affect each other because the idea of having the man-made beach really affects the environment because it will go over a natural beach that has 200 marine & bird species that inhabit the shore that could be killed. Since the beach will wipe off their habitats especially with it being a public beach. Being a public beach makes it worse because that means that anyone can go to the beach and as you’ve seen a lot of beaches in Hong Kong have been littered a lot by people when they came. I really hope that they do not build the beach otherwise a lot of animals could get killed.

This would relate the most to  human ingenuity because human ingenuity is creating things and Shi Huang Di created the Great wall of china which is really useful. It would also fit under Community and Service because he helps people by building the great wall of china to protect a lot of people.
