Evidence I – Languages
Language is one thing that I value as I believe that by learning multiple languages, one can become more global. I am fluent in English and proficient in Mandarin. I have learned Mandarin at the higher level at our school during my time at this school. I can speak with locals and engage with the languages in an advanced manner by analyzing texts and creating texts of my own. Below is an excerpt from a speech written in Mandarin addressing cultural heritage sites in Hong Kong. Furthermore I am at a beginner level in French having studied it for 4 years. I am still able to carry a basic conversation with French speakers.
Evidence II – Coding
For my personal project, I had to learn the basics of computer programming. Since then I have learned how to use C++ and Python. I began learning these computer languages by programming firmware onto my 3D printer. I feel as though computer code is a new form of language that is becoming more and more necessary for anyone interested in engineering or computer sciences. As such, I feel as though by learning these programming languages I am increasing my ability to express complex ideas. Below is a screenshot of the adjusted Marlin code used for my 3D printer.
