The time was in 1941 christmas when Hong Kong surrendered. It is about a eleven years old boy called Nicolas. He moved to Shek Mun to get away from the Japanese with his servant called Ah Mei and Tang. One day he saw a person which fight the Japanese. He is called Tai Lo Fu. Tai Lo Fu wants him to join his fighting group and He joined. At last, the Japanese surrendered because America bombed Japan. Everyone was very happy except Japan.

I think this story has enough history inside it. Every history it says is true. I think the story is a bit boring. I might not read it if I could choose.

On 28 March-1 April was the festival of the arts. There are a lot of things which happen that week. We looked at some paintings, a company called Red Shoe taught us hip hop, chinese calligraphy, and watched some student showcase. Some of my friends performed.
I think the best thing was the calligraphy and the student showcase, I didn’t like hip hop and only watching some paintings which aren’t famous is a bit too boring for me. Some students which performed in the student showcase had some interesting things. One had this chinese instrument that no one knows. Overall I think this year’s festival of the arts was better than last year’s.

We had watched a video recently. It is called Hong Kong Gateway, To China 1938. It was about 1938. I thought the video was very interesting. I had learned that the camera, cars and air-conditioner are new technology, the nickname was called Evil Eye. When they see the Evil Eye people would run away. I think it was very funny. I had also learned that the Chinese people called chewing gum “Che Wing Gum”! Mr. Lalwani said that makes it sound chinese. It is an interesting fact. I didn’t know that the old tram to the Peak doesn’t have any doors, and it doesn’t stop. It takes 7 minutes to go there. That is faster than modern days, because we stop, open the doors, and wait until everyone goes out. I think it is okay, because it is more safer. I also didn’t know that that time the people were making ferries. That means the ferries now are very old, even the trams. In 1938, the Repulse Bay was popular for bathing. The water was crystal clear. I had also learned a lot of other things.

Here is the video, please enjoy:

There was a woman in the in the visiting center. She taught us about plastic. I have learned that there are seven kinds of plastic. You cannot recycle plastic number four. After that, we went to the recycling center. There were some fishes. It was to see if the water is clean. If the fishes die, then it means the water is not clean. Later On, our class went to the Eco Park. There was another woman which brought us around it. They talked about the facts of garbages we make everyday and a lot of other things. On hour later, we went back to the school.

On January 13, 2011, our class went to South-East New Territories Landfill (Sent Landfill) in Hong Kong. Before I went to the landfill, we went to the visitor centre. A lady called Jenny told us facts about landfill. I had learned that there are three landfills, called WENT Landfill, NENT Landfill and Sent Landfill which we went to. They would put two layers which prevents the leachate to go in the ground and destroy the environment. In the landfill, there is a place called the tipping place, which all the garbage slides down to the bottom. Later, we took the school bus to the landfill. It was so cool!

I thought landfills were just trucks dumping garbage and it is very smelly, which would make us want to puke. But when we were there, it was actually different. After they throw the garbage, they would use a truck to compress it, so it could put more garbage in it. Jenny said the landfill is one hundred hectares big and it is as big as one hundred football fields!

We saw the tipping place, which had a bulldozer and a compactor on top. We even saw two flares. I had learned that the flares burns a kind of gas called methane. I had even learned that two thousand trucks working for only one landfill! That is a lot!

Later, we went to the highest point which is ninety meters above sea level. We could see the whole landfill and I can’t smell anything bad. Few minutes later, we went back to the school.

After a narrator told them that it was bad, the dad and mom knew about it, they were guilty. The narrator said if they stop burning the rubbish and start recycling and plant plants, they would get money.

It is relevant to Hong Kong, because Hong Kong sometimes burn the rubbish and uses a lot of electricity. We also use a lot of water. We can be more eco-friendly which means not to burn the rubbish and not to use so much electricity and water.
