Through my volunteering experience as a teacher at the New Home Association, I believe that it was because of the issue at hand: a lack of education and a lack of ability to communicate in our present world. The students (aged 20-50) arrived in Hong Kong in search of better lives: better education for themselves and their children, better jobs, standard of living, etc. However, they were missing one thing: a mean of communication. With english being an integral part of Hong Kong, it was crucial for them to understand, if only the basics, of english in order to survive in their new environment. As I was a teacher, I believe I was teaching for a great cause, benefitting the lives of those in search of better lives, and has allowed me to develops awareness and responsibility towards a shared humanity.
