Thai Land 2013
During May 6th to May 11th, 111 Grad 7 students went to Thai Land in the Chang Mai province. The reason being is because this was the grade 7 Experience Week. About 120 students and staff attended this trip for 6 days. We stayed at the Maekok River Village Resort, which is near the border of Burma and Chang Rai.
During the Experience Week, I was a Risk – Taker because during the confidence course, which is an activity I did there. I scared to complete it, so got a lot of encouragement and at the end I completed but I still fell in the water. The point is that I now I have more confidence in my self and I over come a fear, which was to complete I course like that. Also, I was a communicator because during the trip I had to share one room with 6 boys and my roommates were different from every body in our room. We all had different backgrounds and personalities. So, then our room was getting messy and being invested with bugs. So, I said we needed to clean up and keep dirty shoes out of the room. So, I had to communicate to my roommates, to get our room clean and tidy without any bugs. At the end we won the cleanest room award!
Our trip over to Thai Land was tiring because we had to wake up at 4 am to be at the airport at 5 30, then at the airport we had a problem with checking in because our group was too big. So, 7F (my class) had to check in individually. Then we had to board our flight to Bangkok first, then to transfer to go to Chang Mai. The flight from Hong Kong to Bangkok was 4 and a half hours longs and when we arrived at Bangkok. We had to wait at the airport for around 4 hours because our flight was in the afternoon and we arrived in the morning. So, we got to go eat and hang around there. At 2:30 pm we left to Chang Mai and our flight was 1 and a half hours. When we arrived in the Chang Mai International Airport I could see, so many differences from where I live. We had to get on a bus to get to our resort and since our resort was close to the border our ride was about a 2-hour drive. When we arrived at the Maekok River Village Resort it was about 5 o clocks.
At the resort, all the instructors gave us tours of the resort like where we were staying, where we could go, and the resort. After they briefed us on how things were going to work and what’s going to happen daily. This was all on the first day. Over that week, we had to be organized with our time because in-between activities, breaks or eating times we had free time for an hour. That time gave us time to chill out, swim, and get ready for the following activity coming up. I found this system and how the trip was organized helpful for me and useful.
Activities; for the activities during the Experience Week we did a variety of things we did a hill tribe hike which was about 26km. I found that hike really long because it was very hot in Thai Land and the some part is was very steep. We also, did this activity that was called the confidence course, where we would have to do these obstacles over water. In one part of the course I was to scare to do a part, which was, we had to lean on a rope to get to the other side. Then, there was archery I found this activity a little difficult for me to do because the bow a little heavy for me to hold. The rest of the activities were; rock climbing, jungle survival, Thai cooking, and community and service. Out of all of the activities I did during Experience Week was doing the Confidence course because I found that activity very fun and it help me over come some fears.
In conclusion, I really enjoyed Experience Week and I hope next year for Experience Week it gets even better! Some suggestions for the next years students; I think there should be more choices like where to go and for Thai Land the students should do more activities.
