1) Choose 2 of the Learner Profile Attributes that you Showed.

Over the course of the trip, I had learnt a few things. I also think I had showed a few attributes of the learner profile. Firstly, I think that I showed the profile, caring. I think that i showed it because of a few things. For example, on the last night, Vishal, one of my roommate, had slipped and fallen on the hook from the bed. We all woke up because he was screaming in the bathroom at 5 am. I then got out from the bed, and began walking towards the bathroom. I got there first, (since I was the closest to the bathroom) and then started telling him that he would be fine, and that he didn’t need to worry and that help was on the way. I felt that this was one of the major thing that I did that I personally felt was caring. Another profile that I think that I showed is inquirer. The thing that I did was during the cooking class. I would often ask questions and since this was one of first time I cooked. I felt that I would also want to know more about what I just cooked and I always felt the edge to continue asking the question “Why?”. I think that this was a good way of finding more things. For example, when they did the tutorial, I was often a bit confused. But when I actually tried it, I finally understood why they did what they did. I think that actually doing it was a bit easier to me to understand than just listening to people talk.

2) Did you get to know someone new?

3) What was something that surprised you?

I think that I did get closer to someone. It was mostly because of the trip to the hospital, as we sort of had to relay on each other (ryan and me) We both got injured on the same day, and we both went to the hospital. It was a new experience that we both shared, as we had never went to other hospital outside of Hong Kong.

I think that I had 2 major things that surprised me the most. The first thing was that I actually made it to the top of the climbing wall. I was really surprised because usually I couldn’t do it all the way to the top. That really did shock me, because I thought didn’t think that I could actually do it. The second thing that surprised was how calm ryan was when he lost his toenail. He was also very “brave” for when the hospital cleaned his wound, he didn’t really even shout out. I think that he was really good at concealing his pain/emotions. This also happened to Vishal, because even though he had 7 shots of the numbing medicines, he still didn’t cry out. I think that he was really brave doing that.

English – OSOT Reflection

by 043045 on April 25, 2013

What did you like/dislike about the novel?

Some things that I enjoyed, was actually reading the book, as I felt as if it really was happening. The book also allowed us to understand more about the growing situation about the refugees in africa and the many different countries problems (e.g corruption) I feel that this book was written really well and that it really was quite a piece of art.

What did you like /disliked about the project?

I think that overall, the project was quite fun, because everyone is doing a different question, and that this might be one of the things that I felt was really good, as we all got to understand the growing problem about refugees, both globally and locally.  We were also exposed to many different view of the same subject making us understand more about the situation that refugees are in.

If you work with a partner/ group explain your contribution?

I think that overall all the contribution was fairly spread, I think that I still did the most. Although I felt i did the most, the other group members still didn’t fail me. I feel that this way was a bit unfair for me, although it is still quite okay for me.

Science: Summative Assessment.

by 043045 on January 25, 2013

Strengths:

-I had a mixture of different medias

-I drew my habitat of my bird and I also made a “tree” to show the habitat.

-I made my bird which looked like the thing that I wanted

- I Showed my 10 Structual and Behavioral Adaptations.

Cons

-I could have finished covering my whole tree.

-I could have balanced the background better.

Reflection:

During the Process, I think that I used all my time wisely, both in side and outside. I think that I did use my time efficiently outside of class, as I did finish my goals on time. During class, I think that I used my time pretty well, although I could have done better. If I were to start all over, I would keep the bird the same, and I would keep the back ground the same. I would try and fix my base, as it seems pretty boring. I would also try to change some of its adaptations, as they sometimes don’t really match.

Math AOI Patterns

by 043045 on December 6, 2012

Today in Math, we are studying patterns. I am looking at Human Ingenuity, as the area of interaction, because patterns help us make sense of the world. I think that there were a lot of different patterns in the world, and some of them help us understand better. For example when we look into repeating patterns, they are always continuing with the pattern. This could represent our schedule, as we always repeat it (Eg. 1a, 2a, 1b, 2b etc)

Health and Social Education

by 043045 on September 25, 2012

1. We could help injured people who got harmed during the disaster or situation by donating blood.

- Open a public hospital to the people who live there and provide them health checks or any other health needs.

2. Other specialist doctors/nurses could go to the disaster place and help the injured and sick people.

3. Transporting special medicine from other places in the world if necessary because of the lack of recourses.

4. Meanwhile, while the other people are trying to clean up the disaster and help rebuild schools, buildings homes etc, a group of volunteer teachers could visit and give the kids education.

 5. Provide Basic Needs(Food etc.)

Community and Service

by 043045 on September 25, 2012

1. Providing resources to the community so they could survive until their house is rebuilt.

2. We could help find shelter for the people who’s houses are getting rebuilt. (Tent, cabin, hotel etc.)

3. Helping separated families because of the disaster contact each other. [Communication]

4. A group of people could volunteer to help rebuild some houses and help clean up the mess.

Transition Day

by 043045 on June 12, 2012

The grade 7 teacher our class visited spoke to us about the 2 main things we must really focus on: “Organization” and “Independence”. She explain why and it was because there is a big gap/change from going to grade 6 to 7 because in grade 7, we have to switch.change classroom according to different classroom your classes are in, and if you are not organized enough you could fall behind. The grade 7 teacher also spoke to us about having “Day 1” and “Day 2” through out the upper and middle school. She spoke to us about our marks/expectations in grade 7 because we will be marked differently, for example, during the lower school we all have rubrics/charts that includes our final assessment/understanding about what we have learned, and we are assessed on that by “Approaching, Meeting and Exceeding”, in grade 7 we will be marked by the numbers from 1 to 7.

Day 1 Exhibition Reflection

by 043045 on June 11, 2012

Task: In your process journal, write a last meaningful reflection

1 how did your exhibition presentation go?

2 what were your favorite/ least favorite aspect explain?

3  what did you learn from from this experience?

4 if you could do it again what would you do/ change?

5 what did you learn about the central idea? explain

During this whole process, I have been exposed to a lot of different ideas and understandings. As Ms D.C said , the exhibition is not only an summative assessment for the unit or grade 6, but is an assessment of the whole entire PYP. Our exhibition was to show our skills, attributes and attitudes of the learner profile. This has also been the aim to be a global citizen. The purpose of this reflection is to write a final reflection to conclude this whole process of the  PYP program (lower school)

I think that my/our exhibition presentation, we did pretty well putting up the displays, considering that we only had 3 hours to put up our exhibit. We had also had a lot of complements about our whole display. It was also interesting to look at as  we put our information on an facebook layout, timeline on a keyboard and the graphs on an iphone layout. I think that those are some of the important points to create a successful exhibit, to attract other people to come and look at our exhibit. I also guided most of  the conversations that I made.I am also proud of the way that I presented to the people who I “dragged in” and evaluated, as I felt that I was more confident when taking to other people. I feel that that this exhibition has helped one of of biggest goals that I had for the past 5 years, being more confident and I feel that the exhibition really boasted my confidence. That I amn bvc bbbb proud of.

My most favorite aspect of the whole exhibition process is to plan and make our display as it allows us to let our information run wild. My least favourite side of the whole exhibition process is to argue with our group mates. I liked planing and making our exhibit. It is not only one of the most important part of the exhibition(presenting findings), and it is used to enhance our presentation when speaking. The boards are just there for props to help us show our understandings about the Central idea and the transdisciplinary theme, connections and also what we found out. For our exhibition board, we have decided to use a facebook layout for most of our information as our group is working on social media. This has cause many visitors to come and talk to us about this interesting subject. The reason that I detested arguing with my group mates is that with every argument,  it has cause most of us to place up blocks between us, which leads to us driving each other apart. I have to admit that I also placed up blocks and not talk with each other. But at the same time, it has also made us stronger. And another reason that I dislike arguing is that we all have very valid points and different perspectives on what we did, which cause us to  make “siding/supporting” one another extremely difficult. And for some reason, I have often been part of it or in the middle. This has caused me to think if I should set it as a goal for next year.

After the whole exhibition process I have learnt a lot, from team working skills to different perspectives on any topic. Firstly, I have learnt to be confident. The exhibition has made me into a more confident person. From presenting findings to strangers to working with other strong-willed perspective, it has made me more confident about working with other people. I learnt how to maintain and “control” conflicts that happened in our group. I also learnt how to start and finish a investigation without a teacher/adult to help us. I think that I also learnt a lot about the area of focus that we are focusing on, social media. I learnt about the pros and cons of social media, the ways it connects people together, the different types of  social media etc. This has also made us understand how important the last aspect of the inquiry cycle, action. For our action, we have decided to promote internet safety, as we found out that cyber-bulling  has been one of the biggest con that we found. We have been putting up posters and announcements to promote internet safety.

If I could change a thing about the exhibition, I would have tried to keep my enthusiasm up as some of the time, I did very well, some of the time my energy level wasn’t has good. I felt that if I could keep my energy level up, I would have been a little better. But overall, I wouldn’t change anything.

I learnt that nearly everything has made an impact on the world, although the impact may be bigger or smaller. I also found out that the inventions/events/”things” of the past have made our world how the world is like today.
