June 10th Weekly Update

Practicing for the exam.

Some things we did this week were:

  • Final Exam on Human Body
  • Information Reports on a change in the Human Body
  • Flashmob for Grades 3 & 4
  • Practice for Final Assembly
  • Thinking about which instrument we want to play next year in music class
  • Writing Samples for G6
  • Math: Measurement

This week we had our final exam on the human body. We had been learning about 10 different systems in the human body for a month. I was really frightened of the exam so I was really happy when Ms. Carmen said we could use a cheat sheet that we made. I spent about an hour on my cheat sheet the day before the exam and went to bed at an average time. When it was the morning of the exam I was freaking out because if I got a bad mark, I would be miserable for the rest of that day. We had 1 hour to do the exam and it was 7 single-sided pages long.  I brought my cheat sheet to the exam and I was worried hat I might not have put enough information on it. There were many different types of questions on the exam such as fill-in-the-blank, multiple choice, sentence answer and many more! I ended up not using my cheat sheet at all during the whole exam so I think making one should be a strategy to review because I think I memorized everything while I was making the cheat sheet. I was a bit relieved at the end of the exam and I felt a bit dumb for stressing out about it. I memorized quite a large amount of stuff that probably would only come in handy if I wanted to do a 1000 word essay on “The Homo Sapiens.”

This week we also finished our information reports on the human body. We started it one week ago and we learnt the rules of an information report. It is very different from an essay and I was getting the two mixed up at the start. The topic of our information report was a change that happens/could happen in the human body. My topic was wrinkles and the system involved in that was actually one that the grade didn’t take a look at: The Intergumentary System. We needed to make a bibliography, take jot notes, find a diagram and all that sort of stuff. I finished pretty quickly and I think that is because I haven’t caught onto the point of “Quick! Play Minecraft while the teacher isn’t looking!” I think that is because firstly, I am against downloading anything onto my new computer and secondly, I don’t really like computer games because I think that they are a bit of a waste of your life. (You don’t want to look back on your childhood at 50 and say “Hmmm…. All I can remember is Minecraft, it was a great computer game back in the good ol’ days.”) Also, I think there is no point in playing because then you won’t get a good mark on your report because it isn’t done.

Another thing we did this week was we wrote our writing sample for our G6 teacher to give him/her an idea of what our standard is. We could write anything we wanted to, a letter, a story, a reflection and many more. I chose to write a sort of circular story called ” The Tree(s)” but I think I should have called it “How Forests Are Made”. We had 20 minutes to write our sample so I didn’t fill up the whole 2 pages. I think I used some good descriptive words and I showed next years teacher what I am capable of writing. If I have time during the summer, I will transfer the story from paper to computer and post the new and revised version up here with the name “ How Forests Are Made”.

On a worse note, this school year is almost over. I have mixed feelings about that one because I sort of feel like taking a break but I sort of like going to school everyday and learning new things. I hope next year will be as awesome as this year.
