Please write a comment explaining your experience with your MacBook so far this year.
Over the summer:
-How will you use online networking to communicate with others?
-What kind of image do you plan to portray to the world?
-How do you plan to avoid negative online experiences and protect youself?
On top is what we were supposed to answer and under this is my answer. The questions were written by Ms. Carmen.
So far in his year, my Macbook has been really useful because of a couple reasons. Firstly, I have been able to do research and all of that kind of stuff on my laptop which is much easier than having to go grab one that is shared. Secondly, I have been able to view information at the same time as the teacher is doing it. For example, In Lower School Student Council, while the minutes are being shown on screen, I can look at the agenda and what we are doing next. Thirdly, I am able to use my computer more often and update my blog often as well in school. In grade 4, I could only do that kind of stuff at home, but I would never have time to fit that in to my ever-busy schedule. One of my most memorable moments of my experience this year was when I got my first comment from a stranger on my blog! I got it from a woman that I had never met who lived in the UK! I have enjoyed being able to share my ideas and experiences with the rest of the whole wide world.
Over the summer, I will probably only use 1 online networking site which is Skype. The reason I use Skype is it is 10 times cheaper to call somebody halfway around the with Skype than with a regular phone. Also, with Skype you can have video so you can see the other person. You can also have a 3-way conference with three of your different friends!
As a matter of fact, I probably won’t even have to portray an image as I will not be bringing my computer or using it for three quarters of the summer. If I would have to portray my image, I would plan to portray my image in a not mean, non- violent way. I don’t want to look like a jerk or anything bad like that online because as those people in the video said: “What you put online will stay there for a long, long time.”
My way to protect myself and to avoid negative online experiences is – always set your privacy setting to he highest setting there is so no-one except you and maybe a couple of your trusted friends can see whatever you are protecting. I have almost all my privacy settings turned on the highest possible settings and it has turned out pretty well because I haven’t really had any bad experiences on my laptop.
I think that the Grade 5s having Macbooks was a great idea and it has benefitted most of us.
