There are many present societal issues pertaining to discrimination, whether it be sexism, racism, classism, xenophobia etc, and so in mid-2016, I co-established an online body positivity project entitled ‘The #FLAWSITIVITY Project’. This project revolves around visual arts and performing arts and users on social network site Instagram can submit their artistic works. This project was founded when my co-founder and I noticed the negativity that many of our peers and people online were receiving, and decided to discourage body shaming and promote self love through this creative outlet (artwork below by Inez Farrands).
Apart from my awareness of social issues, I am also consistently performing well academically, having received the Honor Roll yearly since 2014 (achieved a mark of 5+ with one exception) and Principal’s Award (achieved a mark of 6+ with one exception) in 2015. IB students should be well prepared for the academic requirements of university coursework, and these awards demonstrate my ability to perform well academically.
