PE: Answers to Questions

What does sportsmanship mean to you/look like to you? Give some examples.

Sportsmanship looks like encouraging your team members or people on the other team and playing fair. Some examples of sportsmanship would be following the rules of the sport and shaking the other team’s hands after a game whether you lost or won, passing to everyone on your team, etc. For examples, in handball, you would make sure you followed the rules, such as, not taking more than three steps each time. If you accidentally took more than three steps, you wouldn’t argue that you only took three steps. Also, if you won/lost the game, you wouldn’t call the other team bad names just because you lost/won.

Why is it important to follow the rules of a game?

It is important to follow the rules of games because if you don’t, then the game wouldn’t work well. For example, if you were playing ultimate frisbee and you continued to pick up the frisbee after it dropped, then the other team would never get a chance to at least try scoring. Also, you wouldn’t have to worry about not catching the frisbee so people may take advantage of that.

Why are good team strategies important to success in team games? Give examples of strategies for team handball?

Good team strategies are important to succeed in team games because you need to work together as a team and think of good strategies to be able to win the game. If you don’t have good team strategies, then you wouldn’t be able to build a strong team. Some examples of strategies for team handball would be making sure you create space when receiving the ball and denying space while defending. Some good strategies while shooting would to be trick the goalie into thinking of a place where you aren’t going to shoot. One way to do this would be to look at one place while you throw the ball in the opposite side.

How would you create and/or deny space in team handball?

To create space in team handball, you would find an open area where not many people are standing at and where the other team can’t easily block the pass. To deny space in team handball, you would stand closer to the thrower/receiver to be able to intercept their pass.

What is a strategy you/your team used in “Capture the Flag” to be more successful?

A strategy I/my team used in “Capture the Flag” to be more successful was to have some people defending, some people saving people from jail and some people trying to get the flag. Also, you have to communicate with your team members. This strategy works because you don’t want to have everyone doing one thing or no one doing one part. You have to communicate with your team members because if you don’t, you wouldn’t be able to know what they are doing, what your team should work on next, etc.

Describe why having strong skills helps your team be more successful? Give some examples of skills with a specific team sport in mind.

Having strong skills helps your team be more successful because you will build up a stronger team and help your team score points. In basketball, it is important to be good at the following skills: passing, receiving, shooting, creating and denying space. It is important to be good at passing and receiving because if you aren’t, then the other team can easily get the ball because you wouldn’t be able to catch it. Shooting is important because that is what helps your team score points. Lastly, creating and denying space is an important skill because if not, it would be hard to receive the ball or intercept passes from the other team.

Why does a team that is very physically fit have an advantage over a team that is not fit?

A team that is very physically fit has an advantage over a team that is not fit because the more physically fit team will be able to run faster, have better skills, etc. This will give them advantage over a team that is slow, doesn’t have good skills because they will be able to build a stronger team which helps them score points for their team and win the match/games.
