Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT)

Students normally take this test in Grade 10. They must pass the test in order to graduate with an OSSD and their result is recorded as a “pass” on their transcript. Students who do not pass the test will receive remedial help to prepare them for retesting.

The Ontario Secondary School Literacy Course is offered to provide students who have been unsuccessful on the OSSLT with intensive support in achieving the required reading and writing competencies necessary for success at school, at work, and in daily life. The reading and writing competencies required by the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test form the instructional and assessment core of the course. Students who successfully complete this course will have met the provincial literacy requirement for graduation and will earn one credit. The credit earned for successful completion of the OSSLC may also be used to meet either the Grade 12 English compulsory credit requirement or the Group 1 additional compulsory credit requirement.

For the 2016/2017 Academic Year, the Grade 10 OSSLT Exam will take place on Friday, March 31, 2017.
