Grade 12 Scholarships and Awards

Scholarships

N.P.J. Arts Scholarship Award – is awarded to 4 Grade 12 students and 3 Grade 8 students who have made outstanding contributions to CDNIS Arts: consideration will also be given to those who make outstanding contributions to the HK Arts community and/or are considering a career in the Arts; this award comes from a scholarship fund donated by Mr. Neil Patrick Johnston who was the Head of School at CDNIS when we had both a Middle School and a High School.

Concordia Alumni Association of HK Scholarship – is awarded to an outstanding CDNIS grad who will be attending Concordia University (Montreal) in the fall term.

Awards

Students at CDNIS are eligible for a number of awards and certificates throughout their Upper School years. For details on these awards, please see your Guidance Counsellor.

Governor General’s Medal – is awarded to the student having the highest average upon graduation. The average includes all grade 12 courses as listed on the student’s official transcript.

Chinese Canadian Association Citizenship Awards* – are given to 2 graduating students who best meet the following criteria. The students:

  • are actively involved in extracurricular and/or intramural programs (preferably a variety)
  • demonstrate leadership
  • are co-operative, friendly, self-confident, and willing to help others
  • have good interpersonal skills and has a positive attitude to school

*The emphasis is on the above qualities and not on academic performance

Community Service Award – is awarded to the graduating student with the greatest contribution to community service.

Ontario Scholar Certificate – is awarded to Grade 12 students who obtain an average of 80% or more for the best 6 Grade 12 level subjects.

Maple Leaf Award – is awarded to Grade 12 students who obtain an average of 90% or more on the best 6 Grade 12 subjects.

Outstanding Academic Achievement Award – is granted to the graduate with the highest average on their best 6 Grade 12 courses.

Mathematics Award – is awarded to the Grade 12 graduate for the best achievement in at least two Grade 12 Mathematics courses.

English Award – is awarded to the Grade 12 graduate for the best achievement in at least two Grade 12 English courses.

Life Sciences Award – is awarded to an outstanding student enrolled in either Biology or Environmental Systems and Societies.

Physical  Sciences Award – is awarded to an outstanding student enrolled in either Chemistry or Physics.

International Languages Award – is awarded to a Grade 12 graduate who has developed excellent language skills primarily in the CDNIS languages program.

Canadian and World Studies/Humanities Award – is awarded to the Grade 12 graduate for the best achievement in IB Group 3: Individuals and Societies.

University of Waterloo Math Competition Award – is awarded to the graduating student with the top score in the competition.

Valedictorian Award – is awarded to the Grade 12 Valedictorian as voted by students.

Spirit of Canada Award – is awarded to a graduating student who demonstrates vision in analysing complex social, economic, and environmental issues.
