tim-websiteGreetings and thank you for stopping by the CDNIS Upper School website to learn more about the Upper School which it is my honour to serve as principal.  My name is Tim Kaiser and I am originally from Canada but have spent 20 years in Hong Kong – 18 years right here at CDNIS!   Through the years I have seen CDNIS grow in stature to become a world-class school, giving its 1850 students and 160 teachers a challenging, invigorating, and rewarding teaching and learning experience.

Our CDNIS Upper School runs from Grade 7 to Grade 12 and we have over 800 students and 80 teachers.  Our students in Grades 7 to 10 study the IBMYP (Middle Years Programme) culminating in the MYP celebration at the end of Grade 10.  Our students in Grades 11 and 12 study the IBDP (Diploma Programme) along with the OSSD (Ontario Secondary School Diploma).  Grade 12 graduation is in May, but graduates still have much to look forward to with the release of their final IBDP grades in July.  CDNIS graduates continue to set the bar extremely high year after year with outstanding OSSD and DP results positioning them very well for acceptance into top universities, particularly in Canada, the USA, the UK, Hong Kong, and Australia.

But school should never be exclusively the domain of academic pursuits.  It is about giving young people the chance to grow in all aspects of their lives.   We are proud to offer at CDNIS an excellent assortment of extra-curricular options in sports, the arts, and community service to ignite and sustain a variety of passions and interests.  In sports, our teams play in the local international schools league (ISSFHK) starting from the Under-12 age group to the Under-20 age group.  Our senior teams also travel to other schools in the region for a truly international sporting experience as the Timberwolves compete in a variety of South East Asia Sports and Activities Conference (SEASAC) competitions.  In the arts, we are proud to host many arts events in our Leo Lee Arts Centre (LLAC) which is one of the finest school-centred arts facilities in the region.  In terms of community service, there are ample opportunities for CDNIS students to regularly participate in local and regional service-based learning opportunities such as Habitat for Humanity, Interact, Global Issues Network, and Model United Nations.  To complement our belief that meaningful learning extends beyond the classroom walls and the daily schedule, CDNIS Upper School students participate in overnight or week-long experiential learning opportunities such as the Grade 11 IB Retreat, and CAS Weeks for Grade 9-12 in the fall and for Grade 7-8 in the spring.

From humble beginnings in 1991, CDNIS is now a regional flag bearer in its innovative approach to blended technology within the classroom, its expectation of a healthy balance in all pursuits, and its insistence on growth and improvement in all aspects of a young person’s life.  We are intensely proud of our current students and our over 1,000 alumni who are making their marks around the world.
