2016 Timberwolves Invitational Volleyball Tournament was a HIT!

By | Boys Volleyball, Girls Volleyball, News & Updates | No Comments

CDNIS hosted a massive 24 team Volleyball Tournament over 3 days and 56 hours (over 3 courts) of game time.
This is our biggest ever Volleyball tournament and also the highest level of play hosted at CDNIS. Four CDNIS teams were involved in this open tournament; our B20 and G20 teams and our G16/B16 teams entered for tournament experience too.
The G20 team were in dominant form progressing through to the Semi finals undefeated. They faced a challenging game v HKIS in the Semi and prevailed in three tough sets. They continued this form into the final, beating International School Myanmar to win the championship. The team is developing into a strong team, playing a new style of Volleyball and hoping to take their game to the next level as they prepare for both the ISSFHK Championships (defending champions) and SEASAC tournament (2015 runners up) in early November. These events are also the goals of our Boys team. Our Boys team may turn out to be the best CDNIS Boys team we have had for some time. They have great players across the court and are committed to playing their bench, which strengthens the squad. This was shown in a number of games in the tournament where the full bench came on in the second set and maintained the momentum and intensity created by the starters. The Championship final, v Diocesan Boys School, was a great chance for our team to measure themselves against one of the strongest Hong Kong schools. The boys lost 0-2 but some of the rallies had the packed gym roaring with excitement as Volleyball at this level has not been seen in our Gyms before. It was not just the DBS boys hitting and saving ferociously, our boys matched it with the top team before DBS pulled away in the second set to claim their first Timberwolves Championship. The U16 teams can also be very proud of their development over the weekend and they are both much stronger teams for the experience as they prepare for their October trip to Vietnam and for their ISSFHK U16 championships.
Thanks to Coaches Stone, Cameron, Steiner, Po and Cheung for their massive commitment to their teams over the weekend and to the Athletics Staff for hosting this successful event.
Not many schools could have hosted a tournament of this magnitude so successfully and I am proud and privileged to work at a school that offers such great support to both the Volleyball programme and the wider sports programme.
Our Athletics Council and Photography Team have collected these photos from the tournament.
Here is a summary of the results.

Amazing Results from our SEASAC Weekend!

By | Boys Football, Boys Volleyball, Girls Football, Girls Volleyball | No Comments

Day 1

A really great first day of SEASAC Football and Volleyball.

Our Girls Volleyball are 2 from 3 with strong wins over UWC (who we lost to in Japan last week) and then beating the traditionally strong RIS 3-0, the final game of the day was a reply of last years final v NIST and after a fierce battle we went down 1-3.
Our Boys Volleyball had three tough games on Day 1. We won the first and then fought back from 2 sets down in their last game 3-2, we ended the day 2/3 which puts us in a good position to qualify for the Semis tomorrow afternoon.
An amazing first day in Division 1 for our Football girls. After winning Div 2 last year the same players (and coaches) started in Div 1 with a dream 5-0 result.  They then fought back from a 0-4 half time deficit to just lose 3-4 to BPS before finishing strong with a 6-2 win over UWCSEA!  I am so stoked for this hard working team as they are now dominating in Div 1 SEASAC, they have come so far in 2 years.
The Boys Football are in Singapore and are looking good for a Semi Final finish with 2 wins from 3. After preparing the last 4 weeks for an indoor tournament because of the Singapore pollution from the smoke and haze, they arrived to clear blue skies and suddenly the decision was made to go ahead outside.  Some quick tactical changes by the master coaches and we are on track for a good performance.
Well done to all 48 players and our team of 9 staff down in BK and Singapore.  I’m lucky to work at such an awesome school that really does support our teams and athletes well. We arrived early, prepared well, looked good in new playing kit and we are playing so well.  #proudofcdnisseasacday1
A special thanks to everyone who contributed to the Annual Fund, every single family can share in the above results as all 48 of our athletes travelled to SEASAC with the support of our Annual Fund.

Day 2

This is an very short update with very good news.

For the first time that I can remember all 4 of our SEASAC Teams made it through pool play and into their respective SEASAC Semi Finals! This is an amazing achievement. Something to be proud of and to celebrate.
Semi finals have been played tonight and tomorrow our;
Girls Volleyball Team will be playing for Gold!
Boys Football Team will be playing for Gold!
Girls Football Team will be playing for Bronze.
Boys Volleyball Team will be playing for Bronze.
In every case they have exceeded all our – but possibly not their – expectations.
Each and every team has a story to tell today of how they made it out of pool play and gave everything they had in the semi final. I’ll wait to I hear these stories first hand from the teams and coaches as I can not do their journey justice retelling it third hand. I look forward to reporting good news this time tomorrow, till then can I encourage the entire CDNIS community to join with me in telling our athletes and coaches that we are proud of them and that we wish them the best of luck Sunday morning as they face their final challenge.

Exciting Volleyball last weekend, and big tournament coming up Sept 25-27

By | Boys Volleyball, Girls Volleyball, News & Updates | No Comments

Over the weekend Sept 12 we had 4 Volleyball teams in the HKIS Volleyball Invitational.  All four of our teams (Boys and Girls U20, Boys and Girls U16) won the big match against our HKIS friends.  The Girls U20 went on to win the Championship and the G16 finishing 2nd overall.  All teams gained a lot of experience from playing HKIS and 2 other top local schools from the top divisions.  Thank you for giving up a long Saturday Coach Stone, Cheung, Riverin, Po, Steiner and Hautz – coaches like you make our Timberwolves programme awesome.  Well done to all ahtletes, too; you represented the TWolves with pride.

This was great preparation for the upcoming Timberwolves International Volleyball Event Sept 25-27 here at CDNIS.  18 teams from Hong Kong, Myanmar, Singapore, Vietnam and China will come to CDNIs to compete in Boys and Girls U20 Volleyball.  This is an exciting event to host, and we would love to have TWolves fans of all ages in the gym to support.  Girls Volleyball then have a trip in October to Japan.  Girls and Boys Volleyball then travel to Bangkok at the end of October for SEASAC, it’s a great time to be a Volleyball player at CDNIS.
