Dear Parents,
Over the past two weeks we have been looking at the advance of the Industrial Revolution in the UK during the period from the late 1700′s to the beginning of the 1900′s. Our discussion and learning activities in class center on the positive and negative impacts of the IR on family life, technology, society and culture. Our uint question is ‘How does technology initiate change within a society?’ and our AOI is Human Ingenuity. The summative for this unit will be held in mid January and will be an individual speech to the class. In the meantime subtopics of study include the collapse of the cottage industry, the development of agricultural advancements helping to lead to rapid and unplanned urbanization in the UK, Europe and the US. We will also look at life in the cities, conditions in factories, child labour and life in the worker’s tenement housing.
Our next unit of study will commence in late January and will be a unit titled Food and Agriculture in which we will look at where our food comes from and the pros and cons associated with modern day food production. Should you have any questions or concerns please email your child’s teacher.
Warmest Regards and Happy Holidays,
Shane Titus, Stephen Smeed and Stephanie Battani
