Setting Expectations for the Second Half

I hope you’re enjoying this unexpected break, but are also working and playing hard from the comfort of your own home! Three final things from me before I sign off for Chinese New Year.

1. Expectations – let’s talk about expectations for when we come back from break:

Everyone should be 99.9% off book!

What does this mean? “Off book” means that you have memorized your songs, lines and stage directions so far and you no longer need your script to help you know what to do. This allows us to start really working on our characters and how they can best tell the story (without the script getting in the way).

This also means, you still need to bring your script and pencil to rehearsals. You should still mark notes to yourself in it during down time so that you can use it as a tool to practice.

2. Looking forward and back – One thing that I find is really important whenever a show has a REALLY LONG BREAK right in the middle of the rehearsal process is to take a second to reflect on how far we’ve come and how far we still have to go.

Cast, could you help me to respond to this email with two things:

1. One thing you’ve learned so far about the theatre or yourself.
2. One thing you really need to work on.

3. Practice, Practice, and Practice some more! – Load up your digital show pack onto whatever device you have with you for your vacation and do a little Seuss-ing every day.

If you haven’t seen it yet already, there are now TONS of awesome thing for you to practice in our digital show pack.

See you in the LLAC Theatre at 2:45 on Feb 27!

Seuss-ly Yours,

The Seuss Production Team
